YES!!!!!!!! I would love to have the design in post #31 with square lube grooves in a four cavity brass or steel mold. Please keep the .190” meplat. I would also be very happy with the design in post #66 with a .190” meplat and a flat base.

Miha if you make this happen I would be in for a pair. Also the other molds I have received from you have been truly works of art!!!!!

I can do both designs (majority wins).
With hollow base there will be nose pour.

I think I like the original 230 gr weight. I can live with or without a hollow base, my preference is flat based.

Swamped?

Yes and no. If the design is solid (no need for pins), it should move quickly.

Now I also stock some material (aluminum and brass) and roughly cut sprues.

Of course it will take some time but it can be cut quicker than HP molds.


We could move this to active GB....

To chime in, what is a good mold for the saa that is currently available and reasonable? What do most shoot in the cowboy shoots?

When I first bought my Colt SAA back in 1973, I also bought a couple of molds to use in reloading it. One was the Lee .45-255-RNFP and the other was a Lyman 454424 Keith SWC.

I liked the Lee design out of that Colt and it has served me well when using my 1873 Winchester, Uberti, that I bought in 1982 and had rebarreled for the .45 Colt.

The new Lyman 452664 is better if you want to use Black Powder and need more SPG or other Compatable BP lube on your bullet.

I recently bought a used Uberti Schofield and being the impatient type wanted to get out and shoot it. Not having a mould I was thinking of getting the NEI #323A HB which Mr. Venturino used in his excellent book 'Shooting Six Guns Of The Old West' as I intended to shoot 45S&W Schofield loads in it.

Long story short...also have an original Webley Mk.VI and the great RCBS HB mould for that particular revolver. Ok so it's a tad heavy, comes out at around 265gr and drops at .454 so I thought I'd give it a try one afternoon.
At 25M and using cut down Magtech .45 Colt cases with 23g of Swiss No.2 a .030 King veg wad and the Webley bullet (Saeco #4) & pan-lubed with NASA lube, the revolver shot POA and gave some excellent groups.

The lube grooves on the RCBS bullet are not exactly what I'd choose for BP...they are way too shallow and of course are designed with smokeless powder in mind rather than the holy black, but the NASA lube did it's stuff none the less despite the shallow grooves.

I still intend to get around to ordering the NEI mold, but the Webley bullet has shown great promise even if it is a little on the heavy side and is purely a stop-gap measure.
