I got to spend some more time at the range today with the 338-06 Springfield 1903. Bullet of choice is the 33-210P. Casts out at .332", gets patched to .343" and sized to .339" in a Lee push through sizer. For today's shooting the load was .5cc IMR4227 + 57gr. WC 860. Bullets hand seated in unsized cases. It was holding 2 MOA on paper at 100M, and had no problem hitting the highpower silhouettes out to 500M off the bench. I am really liking this load, need to chronograph it but it feels like between 2000 and 2100 fps based on the drop I was seeing. And it actually was tracking to the GI sights, so possibly going faster than I think. At any rate, primers were all rounded with no pressure signs and fired cases fell right out. I need to cast up a bunch more of those bullets and do further testing, but I think I have a winner with this one.

Nobade, have you found accuracy with these PP bullets to be alloy specific?

I have a PP mold for my 338-06 as well and I have not really tried soft to hard alloy for best accuracy yet. In fact I have not worked on that rifle with PP in a long time.

Just like pretty much everything using paper patched bullets, I stick with fairly soft lead. I find that if it easily dents with a fingernail it usually works best.

My alloy is Rotometals hardball so I think it really is too hard, no pun intended. I was looking at getting 1-30 for this. What do y'all think?

Should work better. If you can pick up range scrap with lots of jacketed bullet cores, that works well.

I don't even have time to reload, much less pick up ( dig up? ) scrap. Most of the time when I post it is from some hotel room. That is why this thread is taking so long to come together. I am afraid I will just have to buy some of what I need.

I see. Yep, get some 20:1 and you're good to go.

Now that is a shame! I think you should box up that poor neglected mold and send it up to me. Believe me I used to almost wear the same shoes as you are wearing until I retired.Robert
