    45-70 with a progressive press.

Many moons ago I told someone, and I have no idea who it was, that the next time I loaded 45-70 on my RCBS Ammomaster I would post a pic. So here it is.

I use a mixture of dies as you can see. The boolit is a Lee group buy from years ago, a 461-365 six cavity that shoots very well in every rifle I've tried it in. These are air cooled wheel weights.

I'm using CCI #34s under 15 grains of Universal Clays in new Star Line nickeled cases. LARs 2500 lube.

I just sold the last two AM I owned. Your's looks great by the way. I would highly recommend changing out the original case activated powder drop to the new Linkage system. Much, much, better and worry free. I loaded a lot of rifle rounds on mine also and they did a stellar job. Probably, (IMO), the most versatile press ever made. Not sure why (other than the loooong handle throw and the not so reliable case activated powder system) the Ammomaster wasn't a more popular press. They are definitly a "do it all" press. Why did I sell mine you may wonder? I wanted something a bit smaller just for handgun loading as I no longer load copius amounts of large rifle rounds. Just 223, and I have an old Dillong 450 that works fine for that. Very cool picture by the way. And..I do have a bit of "sellers" regret about them..

However, I did retain all (except one) of the shell plates I had for them. As I am rather interested in the Pro 2000. The strip priming interests me. A fella should always have a "plan B" don't ya' think??

    Progressive AmmoMaster?

I have one of those RCBS Ammomaster presses I bought a long time ago for reloading the 50 BMG. And more recently I have been using it with normal 7/8" dies for reforming brass casings. Do you know if the progressive add-on is still available for this press? I would like to have one to add a progressive to my battery of single stage presses.

Thank you for the kind remarks.

    Nope, I've never checked concentricity.

Nope, no Colt Gatling gun here. Sorry.

I had one of the case-activated powder drops but sold it. Never used it and never had a need for it. The stock RCBS set up has never given me any trouble. For handgun and smaller rifle ammo I have a Rockchucker with a Piggyback set up. Much shorter stroke.

I have no idea if the progressive add-on kit is still available - but RCBS would tell you.

I really like the Ammomaster. As noted, extremely versatile press. From 25 ACP to 50 BMG and everything in between, I'm covered.

If needed, I still have a couple of the "powder tubes" and screw in part, one clear and I think the other is aluminum and a couple of the "actuating rods"....I have no use for them.

looks like your not using a case lube. Are you just neck sizing? I load a lot of rifle stuff progressively too but I always size and tumble then put them through the progressive to seat primers, charge and seat bullets.

No Lloyd, they're lubed. I use the Hornady One Shot spray lube.

Gosh, looking at the picture the 45-70 fills up the window. . .

If if you stack two end to end!

Why did RCBS stop the Ammomaster progressive? Doesn't it take the Pro 2000 shellplates?

    take care

I roll 45-70 on Dillon RL550B, I use ISDW for lube (on EVERYTHING!) RCBS dies with a Dillon crimp die in station 4 and the Trail Boss powder flows thru the powder measure just fine!, never checked the concentricty?, the 1886 sends them down range to the target just fine!

I use my Pro-2000 to load 45-70 progressively , it works great. Anyone thinking about getting a Pro-2000, RCBS is phasing them out in a year or so.

    r1kk1,

Nobody knows why they stopped making it. It's the story of my life, just when I find something that works/fits/does the job I want they either "improve it" or discontinue it. *sight*

No, the 2000 uses the Ammomaster shellplates.

I took my AmmoMaster of the bench a few weeks ago to mount my second LNL I got after trading in my old ProJector. I once loaded 30-06 on it, but had it dedicated for 45ACP. I used the original powder measure activation for many years and just switched it over to the modern unit. Never had any issues with the system and I actually found a 'new old stock' cartridge counter that mates with the old powder system. Never had issues with anything.

i am debating about selling it on to a next owner that promises to hold it, love, and rub it with oil every day and love it as much as I did...

but part part of me wants to keep it. If I could trade for a decent TC Contender it would be a go.

works great and but I also have an older piggyback and a Piggyback 2 that's new in the box in sealed bags.

Yes Lloyd, I just leave it on. You spray it on and let it dry. If you don't let it dry it's a terrible lube. Once dry it works great. I haven't used anything else in years.

I too use once shot often but I allways tumble it off. I guess I don't want ammo coated with **** going in my guns. Especially black guns that will need complete reliability.
