    23 caiber bullets

Is there anyone making or using 23 caiber bullets? I have jackets and swage dies for 230 diameter bullet. This an old a not very common cartridge. Used for a 230 LLF. It is a 243 necked down to .230. From what I can find, quite accurate and in response to states banning 22 cal for big game. Looking for some information.

PO Ackley's book 1st Handbook has the 230 LLF and the 230 Ackley listed (shortened 30-06 brass).

I'm not sure, but the actual groove dimension is .234", which isn't out of the realms of possibility.

    Pac-Nor have 23 calibre (.234") barrels listed.

Midway have 230 Ackley Short dies and reloading bits from RCBS list, all "special order" but that doesn't mean RCBS still support the cartridge either. The Short version probably isn't much different from the 243W version and probably pre-dates it by a less than 5 years. Might be based on the 250 Savage case. Could be a dandy little calibre based on the 30 Remington case (6.8 SPC), the 223R, 221 Fireball or 22 Hornet...the usual suspects.

PT&G would probably have drawings and be able to grind reamers on request.

Pretty sure HG Firearms listed 23 calibre bullets on his website...that might have been the kiss of death for the calibre?

The .228" calibre is more popular given there are still quite a few 22 Savage Hi-Power chamberings still getting around.

Closest I know is the .228 used in 22 Savage High Power

Thanks for the replies. That is what I found. HG did offer 23cal bullets, that was his niche.
