I got my m44 in similar condition and have been very pleased with it. My shoulder on the other hand is not.
I was amazed that Russian M44s were even available like this.

Nice find, stash it away,,, let it stay pristine. I have a polish m44 unissued except for the 30 rounds i put through it. I got it for 120.00 and six boxes of privi ammo 30 years ago.

Yes private sale, fella said he purchased it in 2000, I did some research and apparently there were some very good ones imported that time, I am skeptical on the un-issued part but also does not look like the bolt was ever used, bolt face is like a mirror.
I want a Radom M44
I am sceptical about unissued as well, but you never know thats one of the fun things about collecting milsurps, never know what you will come across. If anything it could have been refurbished to pristine condition, still nice in a collection and still a piece of history. I am 99.9% my polish m44 was unissued you can just tell when you see one.

Well it is not counter bored, and there is no refurb mark and there is no forced matching.
Nice one. I've got a 1948 last year of production in similar condition, still crusty with cosmoline. Its buried in the safe somewhere, I'll try to dig it out for pics.
Since there are no re-arsenal marks on the rifle, I'd go with unissued. A number of the post war M44s were produced and put into storage for decades before being sold off.

I commend you not cleaning yours, I wish I had that patience but I really want to shoot this baby, a lot.
Plus the cosmoline is unlike others I have had in Mosins that were refurbs, this cosmoline seems thicker and dryer or less viscous.
Congrats on finding that M44. I'll bet its production date of 1946 meant the it went into war stocks and not to a field unit after it was made and thus its great condition.
This one (1953 production) came unfired back in 1994 or so. Its fit, bluing and finish can probably never be duplicated again by a factory production rifle. It came with a take down tool, cleaning gear and other ancillary equipment.I want a Radom M44
It was perfect for my son in his younger days with cast boolits. We put off firing ball ammo till he was in high school and to be honest, I still put off firing ball ammo and stick with moderate cast loads in it.

Very nice rifle, I bought one in that condition about 10-12 years ago that was made '48 for $90, I sold it shortly after for $100. I bought it back not long ago for $100 with 40 pieces of brass and a set of Lee dies and without the bayonet lug. It had been used for hunting and carried around in a truck, still in good shape with a few dings. Really should have kept it as it did look unissued, it did and still does have as nice a bore as I have ever seen in a Mosin .I have the bayonet and have considered replacing the cut off lug but it might be more trouble than it is worth, besides I think I like it better without it.Dave
You guys got me all riled up and itching to buy an unissued one of some flavor, I have o ly seen one unissued example, it was at a gun show not to long ago, I only saw it as another guy was buying it from a table at the back I always go to first. I'm worried about my health now and the remission of my addiction. I've always loved them for their diamond in the ruff qualities, clean them up, replace and fix this or that and tune a load for them. Don't know what I'd do with a new shinny one but I'm dieing to find out.
No refurb marks at all, that is a real find. Truly a find, knowing their military and satilite militarys.

I love how the Mosin Nagant bolt feel in my hand, just solid rifles.
