    312-185 or 309-150 lee in 308?

Can't find any specific data here. Been looking quite a bit but search doesn't work on Tapatalk.

    Have 784, 3031, unique

Well tried the 10gr unique with the 312-185 sized to 309 and it shot about 2" @ 75yds. Recoil was LIGHT and so was the report. Might just work for deer.

I use the 312-185 in my .308 in front of 16 grains of Hercules 2400 (old can). Velocity was just under 1600 fps the last time I checked.

My mold drops a skosh over .312 and I sized to .311. A bit lighter than I would like for deer, unless they were very close.

185 is light for deer? Didn't think much more from a 308 win would even stabilize

Ours aren't much more than a big dog here.

Try 30.0 gr of Reloader 7 behing the C185-312 Lee sized to .309.
Put some BOOT Behind that Boolit and you will be suprised how well it will do.

Try a starting load with 3031 at about 30.0 with the 185 sized to .309 then work up from there.
You should be able to go as high as 37.0 with the 3031.
Start at around 27.0 with the 150 up into the 40.0 grain range with the 3031

You misunderstood what I wrote. I meant the velocity was slow, thus a light load. While it would have more power than a 1902 era .32-40, I would prefer to have velocity up into .30-30 territory at least if I am going to carry a .308.

Ah alright. I can see that it wouldn't expand much at slow speeds.

If you have 748, and not 784, I like a charge of 36.0-38.0 grains with your 185 grain boolit for about 2000 fps. 33.0 grains should give you about the same velocity, but I have not personally tried that combination. For pure accuracy, try the 150 grain boolit with 17.5 -18.0 grains of 2400.

Try 16 or so of 2400 with the 150. Marlin 308 did 1700 or so with 1/2" @ 50, no real recoil.
    Whatever!

Not being able to find any 2400 for a while is the reason most of my loads are now with Reloader 7.
For light loads and a universal power , you cant beat 2400.
I cant find much SR4759 either but the RX 7 fills that gap too, along with the 5744.

Get a copy of the Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook 4th ed is current ed.

NOTE: you must check these yourself, with the Lyman book, or else start at the min and work your way up please.
    These are for 308win cartridge.

    150gr .309 (lee mold)
    unique 12.8gr(1707fps) to 19.5gr(2208)
    imr3031 27.0(1735 to 32.5(2176)

    Lyman 180gr mold
    unique 12.2(1425) to 15.5(1692)
    imr3031 33.0(2001) to 37.5(2361)

    I also prefer 2400.
but imr3031 should be plentiful and on the lower part of average cost/lb too.
    5744 is expensive.

The C312-185 sized to .310 over 28 grs. of H4895 is the most accurate load i have found for my Weatherby S-2 Vanguard. Mine is a couple of years old and has a 1:12" twist bbl. I add dacron filler for even better accuracy. My only issue is that Hornady gas checks are a pain to fit to the shank. I have to enlarge the mouth of the gas checks with a ball bearing held in forceps and gently tapped with a 4 oz. hammer to get them to fit reliably.

jay, I've found that I can anneal the gas checks and they go on much easier than without annealing. No smashing fingers trying to hold a ball bearing either.

I anneal them the easy way, I put a bunch in an old tablespoon that is in my casting kit, then float them on top of my molten alloy until they get hot. Dump them to cool and do some more. May not be the "best" way, but it works for me.

I just take the Bullet, and stand it point down on a block of Oak that I made a small dimple to hold the nose of the bullet.
Then Tap the GC on with a small Brass hammer then run them thru my Lee Sizer.
    Quick Simple.
I was going to make a block with a press Arm to seat the GC's rather than a hammer, but just havent got around to it. Yet

I just run them through my lee sizer backwards. No issue if it developed a slight flat nose and correctly seats the GC. I've tried running then through base down but the checks just pop off the bottom and push the projo rather than crimp on

If you want to run a Round nose on the sizer Backwards, then just have a Concave ram plunger made or modify your plunger on a Poor mans Lathe.

I've contemplated this but site be doesn't deform the nose most times.
