Does anyone out there have a suggestion for a mold for a .30 carbine blackhawk and a 14 inch contender in .30 carbine? I have: 2400 W296 IMR4227 IMR4198 IMR3031 SR7625 and HP 38.

I have used the following molds with 2400,H-110,and Unique ; Lyman 311465, Lyman 311576, and the NOE 311-115 RN. All are gas checked. The Lyman are heavier (120's grain) but have shot well in both rifles I have. The NOE mold is excellent and comes in 2/ 4 cavity molds. Boolits are sized .310 for my rifles but have been fired in a friend's BH with outstanding results.
Take a look at this:

I use the 311008 in my Blackhawk. Gets the job done. Don't have a Contender.

The 311359 over 2400 has been my carbine standard for years and both my carbine and .30 Blackhawk loved this load. In a fit of madness however, I sold the Blackhawk about 15 years ago and I'm still kicking myself. I have recently picked up a 311576 and some H110, which I'm sure will also give great results in my carbine. Gotta find time to play......

The Lee 30 caliber 120gr round nose works very well in the 30 carbine. Feeds well and is accurate. The Lee 30 cal. 113gr feeds in most M-1 carbines and is also very accurate. I have a 4 cavity Saeco in a 120gr that matches the FMJ profile. Feeds well but not as accurate as the Lee molds.
Depends on what you want for performance. With reduced plinking loads and of the .311 - 314 PB'd SWCs will do just fine. The 311008, the Lee TL314 90 gr or RCBS 98 gr SWC are good choices. All can be sized to 309 or .311. Your SR4625 and HP38 powders would fill the bill there.
However if you want top end performance out of both the guns then a GC'd bullet will prove best. Any of the GC'd 115 - 120 gr bullets are fine. The 2400, W296 and IMR4227 will do very well there.
If you are looking at hunting or varmint shooting with either then I suggest a GC'd SWC or FN design. Several makers have them. My favorite for the .30 Carbine is the 105 gr SWC Lyman used to make for the 32 H&R; 313631. The next best is the GC'd version of the 32-20 Lyman 311008 bullet; 311316. There are current variations of each still available.
