    JES mod.94AE 30-30 to 38-55 rebore

I got my JES rebore back yesterday. I chose the 3 groove option. Took 3 weeks. To say I'm pleased would be an understatement. I shot 6, 4 shot groups all with the Lee 379-250 sized .377 in the short Starline brass and 3 powders- IMR 4198, IMR 4227, AA5744. All shooting was at 50 yds. 4198 loads were: 18.5 gr, 20gr, 21gr, 22gr. 4227 load was 18gr. 5744 load was 18gr. All had a pinch of dacron filler. I was using a fixed 4power scope. All loads were under 2in, the 4227 load was champ for yesterday at right around 3/4 in for 4 shots. The 18.5 gr 4198 group was the worst at around 2in. Non leaded that I could tell, but I shot one of the 22gr 4198 loads over my chrony, got 1583fps! (. 20in tube) I shot one of the 5744 loads over it and got 1305fps. All of these groups were good enough that I could blame any "outliers" on me except the 18.5gr 4198. The 20gr load strung laterally which was me getting used to the rest I think, but it was still about 11/2 in. I will reshoot a couple of these. I bet I'm going to find more than 1 that is good- which when I was first handloading, would drive me nuts- now it makes me smile. Shoot Straight, T-Bird.

Congrats, hope you're very happy with your "new" rifle. NOE is still (maybe) on last call for his version of the Lyman 375449. Worth a look.

Range session yesterday reshot the 4227 load, similar results for 10 shots chronied 1410-1424 fps for 6 of the shots (love the dacron)! 19gr 5477 shot a nice round 1'' at a little over 1300 fps for 5 shots (1299-1328 actually I think)

Jesse rebored my Marlin 336W to .375 Winchester and it's a sweet shooter. I also opted for the 3 groove rifling and it shoots cast 265 grain GC bullets into tight little clusters, as long as I do my part.

    Hope this helps.

Go for it 9W! Ain't nothin' but money! I was mistaken about my "champion" the first day. It was actually 17gr 4227. The 2nd trip was 18gr- it did about as well. I haven't chronied the 17gr load, but if 16gr is 1330 and 18 gr is 1410ish I may just guestimate that the vel for 17gr is halfway between - duh! I reshot the 17gr load at 100yd and after adjusting the scope, I put 3 in an inch about 2'' hi. At 150yds same load is about 5" low and still around moa. The load is about 2" hi at 50 as well. I think this is my load. Will probably use up the rest of my 5744 with the 19gr load because it did well too and I've had it a long time. Accurate guns are fun. Next project is to get it to shoot 40-1 alloy at these speeds for hunting. Shoot Straight T-Bird

I just want to know how you get those .359 boolits to shoot out of that .379 barrel.

Went to the range yesterday and shot 3 26 gr 3031 40:1 after 2 fouling shots with 19 gr 5744. Got a 1 1/4 in group-niiice! Leaded a little. Next I shot 17 gr 4227 with pb al gas check that I got from Sage's outdoors (he's a member here) and got around 2". I had shot the same load the day before w/o gas check and got a similar size group, so I guess the check didn't help this load. Will reshoot the 3031 group and decide whether I need to chrony or not. It hits in the same place on the target as the other loads so I guess it really doesn't how fast it's going, but I'll probably do it anyway. The leading cleaned out easily when I got home. Reshot the 26 gr 3031 load yesterday, 3 shots @ 1in-40:1 alloy at 100yds. I'm done load development. Now the rock bustin', can shootin', and freezer fillin' starts! Shoot Straight, T-Bird

I guess what I saw was leading, it was light colored wide streaks in the muzzle end of the bore. This is what I imagined leading would look like. shot the 3031 load again, did the same thing (accurate with streaks) but sure does clean up easily to be leading-guess I'm lucky. If it was leading, you would see shiny pieces of lead when you clean the barrel. Sounds like it is powder/lube fouling.

Ok, thanks garand. I have only really noticed it with the 40:1 loads ( with 3031 and 4227), the COWW don't leave this and they are the same powder/lube combos. I have never gotten any shiny pieces on my patches so I guess I don't have any leading. Bore looks shiny after cleaning. Cool! Shoot Straight, T-Bird
