    480 mold advice

Hey guys I need some help/advice.I have ordered one of the new Ruger 5 shot 480 and am looking for a mold now.NOE has a group buy going now and I like the design but I am also looking at Accurates 48-395B. Of those two which would you prefer?Or would I be better off with a different mold?

I tried the Lee 400 gr. Mould and never wanted any thing more. With what I read about recoil in the SBH a mould in about 350 gr. may be a better choice. My Tarus Raging Bull makes it a fun shooter. Hearing protection is mandatory!

I just picked up a Lee 325. Figured that with some HS6 to start and work up to full house with H110. Problem is the mold won't close completely. Did the email deal with Lee (5 volley) and finally told them to stuff it, it going back to the vendor. Dropped an email in MiHec's inbox to see what he has available. Need a Wfn for a Freedom Arms so I looking also. I'd like a light and heavy for this caliber.

I have the Accurate 4-cavity 355 Grain WFN GC mould it is an out standing mould. Cast up a pile of bullets in a short period of time. The bullets are outstanding on game and very effective. My favorite load is this bullet over 13.0 grains of Unique.

My boolit is 420 gr, near WFN and will fit a freedom. I would send a few to anyone that wants a mold made to copy them. I have kept 4 out of 5 on a 6" swinger at 400 yards, first shot a sighter my spotter seen.
I will send to a mold maker too but you can't change it in any way. It has done 1/2" at 50 from a Freedom.
I want nothing but it could be named a JM boolit. Deer slammer in the extreme.
The Lee 400 shoots very well but you need to seat right to the top of the crimp groove to chamber in a Freedom, it is right to the front of the cylinder. Tension and no boolit pull allowed.
Need .476". Mine is a PB. Needs water dropped WW metal. 26 gr of 296, Fed 155 for 1329 fps.
The lee takes 26.5 gr for 1362 fps or 15 gr of HS-6 for a milder load, very accurate.
You will think my boolit is crazy wrong but you know I am nuts anyway.Attachment 146922
Darn, those loads are for the .475 so reduce for the .480, works fine.

I will say this with a 355 grain WFN you can take any animal on this earth yes any animal on this earth. Accurate delivered my 4 cavity mould in less than three weeks. The velocity you see for this 475 is easily achievable in the 480.

    Gun #4
    TC Encore 10" 475 Linebaugh
355 Grain hard cast WFN GC Acccurate mould. Loaded over Unique.
Shot from 25 Yards velocity 5' from muzzle 1130 FPS
26" of penetration straight line good disruption of material the tapered of for the last 10".Great weight renention 323.1 grains it shed the gas check.

I have the 400 gr. RCBS pb mold. Uses a lot of alloy but is very accurate.

I have one of MiHec's Group Buy 477-640's, Gas Check and Cramer. If you want to see a few drop me a PM.

Why so heavy guys? Is this a testosterone thing? heck even a 355 grain will pass through a buffalo at 480 Ruger velocities.

Not trying to be disrespectful truly I want to know the thinking.

Recoil is heavy with those heavy bullets.
You get less bullets per pound.
    Harder on the firearm
Is it nessecary considering the 300-355 grain WFN will penetrate anything in North Ametica and most African Continents.

    Please enlighten me.

Ramjet, is your mold a catalog item? If so, can you post a link? Why the gas check?

I've never gotten great accuracy in my .475 Linebaugh with the lighter boolits. 400+ grains seem to do much better. Also I associate 300 grains with a .44 or .45 cal handgun.

I like GC for the Higher pressure loads and for driving softer alloy just little harder without leading.

Ok dubber123 that makes sense to me I have had good accuracy with the 355 grain but I am not driving it super hard either and the LBT mould I have is 420 grains and the accuracy from my guns is about the same. Getting less enamoured with recoil these days. But I certainly understand.

I bought 250 pieces of Starline brass and a set of Hornady dies. Just purchased the RCBS mold 82094. Now all I need is the Ruger Bisley revolver in .480 !
