reboring by JES

Curious to know if some of you have sent in barrels to be rebored by JES?. couple questions though.
did you remove the barrel first or did you send in the barreled receiver? Reason I ask is that I'd like to get my Longbranch #4 mk1 rebored to 375 caliber. And at present do not have the tools to remove the barrel. There is a 375 caliber cartridge based off the 303 british case called the 37 rimmed so this is what I'm shooting for. Basically it is the 303 british case necked up to take 375 cast or jacketed bullets with no other changes. Sort of a 38-55 on steroids. I've plenty of 303 brass and like the idea of having the longbranch in 375. This rifle has already been sporterized so no collectable firearm is going to be used. your comments and suggestions are as always greatly appreciated. I have a Marlin 336 that was a 30-30 now rebored to 38-55 by JES. I did not ask but I do not believe that he removes the barrel to do the work.
If you call him he seems very friendly to talk to and will tell you what you are looking for. His work is top notch and shoots great ! Give him a call.

He generally test-fires after re-boring so he'll want at least the barreled action. As Jedman pointed out he's friendly and very knowledgeable, guve him a call with any questions about your build or his services.

Yep, all I removed from my rifle was the sights, Jesse punched out the 30-30 to a 356 Winchester, he knows what he's doing!, call and talk to him, he'll tell you what he needs to do the job.

I just send my barrels in as I am set up to headspace and test fire in the shop, saves a little money. First rate work all the way around.

Frank: I sent him my #4 Mk1* for reboring to .35-303 I sent him the barreled action and he removed the barrel for boring a rifling.

My gun was a Parker Hale Deluxe Sporter that PH had cut the barrel back to 22" and soldered on a new ramp front sight, which was crooked.

Jess got the sight to line up perfectly when he reinstalled he barrel into the action and sent me the spent cartridge he had fired in the gun.

Best to call him around 5PM local PDT. He doesn't answer the phone during the day but always will call you back to answer questions fi you leave a message..

Are you going to .375-303? if so I believe he has the reamer to clean up the chamber.

Call him and talk to him he's done a lot of these guns.

I also recommend that you go with 4 groove rifling. It is another $25 but you can measure the 4 groove boolits with a mike the 3 and 5 grove barrels are harder to measure accurately. Everyone I have heard of that has done the 3 groove barrels says the shoot great too.

He does excellent work and my barrel looks real nice. I haven't shot it yet as the gun is in limbo right now but I have every confidence it will perform as expected.

He must remove the barrel on most lever actions. How would he cut the chamber?

I had him do a 336 30-30 into a very useful 38-55. Great work and very prompt service. About a week if I remember, its been a few years back.

randy, yes my rifle is a parker hale sporter with the military wood suitably chopped. Also a longbranch #4 MK1 with the slot for the bolt cut in the siderail and has a two groove barrel. I've been talking about this project and received some different .375 cast bullets from some generous members here. I did read his info especially regarding a minimum of.200" over the bore diameter to be on the safe side. My barrel has been cut back from the origional length to 25" so should be good to go and have decided to go with the 4 groove rifling. Only thing to figure out is the twist. Frank: He will recommend a twist rate for you as well. Just call him, he's a great guy to talk to and you'll be able to tell quickly that he knows what he's talking about.

The end result is the 37 rimmed which is the 303 case necked up to take .375 diameter bullets with no other changes. It does leave a tiny shoulder but since headspace is off the rim really doesn't matter. I've a bunch of HXP 303 once fired cases or how about some virgin IVI Canadian cases. Frank

Jesse rebored a '94 to 38-55 for me. I sent the whole rifle and had it back in 2-3 weeks. Great work and a nice guy.

Well gonna take the plunge. Just have to have a .375 caliber rifle and the long branch is just sitting there with me looking at it. Thanks for your suggestions and comments as I've never done anything like this before. Will let you know how it turns out. Thanks again. Frank
