Making .243 jackets out of .17 HMR RF cases

Please forgive me if this has been asked & answered before. I did a search with no results.

I know some folks are making .243 jackets out of .22 Mag RF brass. It seems like those cases are pretty scarce these days. I've been finding, at least around here, that more & more .17 HMR hulls are showing up. Can .243 jackets be made out of these? Are they worth picking up?

    TIA...

https://www.google.com/url?q=http://...RxRWzkRFL33UHw This should tell you what you need to know. At the top right of the page is the search function. Put jackets from rimfire brass there. Should bring up plenty of archives. Don

I don't have an exact answer to your question as I don't swage, but as a rimfire manufacturer I can tell you the 17 hmr is just a 22 mag necked down so as long as you could expand the neck or cut it down to get a lead core inside it I don't see why it wouldn't do what you can with mags...

That tiny neck MIGHT be a problem, it may collapse in to the case. Maybe annealing before expanding.my granddad made 22 bullets from 22 empties. He also made 243 bullets using 22mag empties. He cut the nose off full metal jacket bullets to hunt with.

Yes you can! I cut the neck and shoulder off first instead of trying to expand it up and can make a 100gr open tip bullet with an 8s ogive. In a lead tip I can make a 107gr. I made up a little adjustable jig for a HF mini chopsaw to cut the 17hmr cases down.
