What rifle round is closet to 40sw diameter?

I was wondering if anyone know off the rod of their head a cartidge with the same or touch smaller then 40sw? The reason I ask is I had an idea for trimming them to make 45 acp projectiles.

    Thanks!

    6.8 Remington SPC has a 0.421" base diameter. 40S&W is around 0.422"-0.424"

That's about as close as you're going to get.

Tiger, thanks. I am curious if I can modify a 8.8 dillon trim die to trim 40sw so I can get the length I need. Now if I just had a lathe and knew how to use it. Lol.

Consider using a small drill press with a counterbore and a pair of vise grip pliers to hold the brass (in your case, the 40S&W). Through trial-n-error, set the drill press stop so that it comes down to the exact height you wish. I've used this method to trim 50cal jackets to length. Beware, the brass WILL be hot after you turn some length of it into tiny brass chips, LOL....

    The trim die is easy
Use an extended shell holder and a 40 S&W trim die that is ground off to correct length.
then a jewelers hack saw and DONE !

Or ask 4-D die or Redding to make you a short die.

And you can also use one of these bad boys

I've been trying to perfect this for 2 months now. The biggest problem is that the length after trim is shorter than the Dillon toolhead while the case sits in the shellplate. The stackup just doesn't work without serious modification to the toolhead.

Forgot to mention that once the modifications are done, there is no room left to get the shavings out because all the work is being done inside the area of the toolhead.

Man have you tried the toolhead made by gsi(i think I can double check when I get home) they have an vacuum port built right into the toolhead. It is their 300 blackout tool head.

I have not tried it but I have seen it. My finances are tight for a while. If anyone wants me to try it I will gladly if you send me one

My goal would be to trim the 40 just like any other case in the Dillon fully automatically.
