    top punchs

I have searched to no avail for the lyman top punch # that matches a rcbs #516, its for a rcbs 25-100 mold but needs to work in a lyman 450 sizer.

tried the layman book, tried castpics, tried searching here, but maybe my search mojo is bad today.

while I got your attention how about a lyman top punch # for a nei 357180 mold, can't seem to find it either.

    thanks.

This is because Lyman only makes top punches for their mould designs. You should be able to use an RCBS top punch in your Lyman sizer without modification, as well as RCBS sizing dies. Nobody makes nose punches for NEI moulds that I've ever seen. To be honest with you, most users simply use a flat punch for all flat nose bullet designs. Round nose and spitzer designs would end up with flattened noses however.

You can custom fit a boolit nose to a top punch that's close, I just study the Lyman chart and find/ buy one that matches the RCBS or NEI or whatever (usually Lee) mould I have as closely as possible , and fit it with epoxy putty, the stuff I have now is J-B Weld Epoxy Putty. Put a tiny ball of it into a clean nose, nose punch in sizer, oil the bullet nose, lower the punch down onto the boolit making sure all is aligned , let it set, remove and trim off any excess. Perfect fit! Regular epoxy can run/drip the putty stays put.

I took a 1/4" brass bolt, cut the threads off, put it in my drill press and with a file cut the head flat and round to fit. I have two of them, one smaller than the other. These work for probably 90% of the boolits I size, flat nose, hollow point, and I don't mind a slight flat on round nose boolits.

Where does one get a flat top punch? I don't have access to a lathe. (Sorry for the highjack)

Also, RCBS #445 is a flat faced top punch.
