    221 Fireball seating

Looking at die sets and wondering if one could seat a boolit into a 221 Fireball case using a 223 seating die. Sort of looks possible if one screwed down the seating stem. Is this impossible or possible?

Why not just buy the right die for the job?

Was trying to save a bunch of money, but think I have found the die cheap. Now if I can find a neck sizing die used I have the set I want.

I bought a set of dies ten years ago in anticipation of building a rifle - I have yet to do that, but may get around to it sometime soon. I got an essentially new set of Redding dies off ebay for less than $15

If you are thinking of a .221 Fireball, CZ recently imported a bunch of 527 Americans in 221 Fireball. The 527 American is all metal and wood reportedly very accurate. I got mine from Whittaker and think Kentucky Gun and one other place obtained them from CZ. I don't know that you will save a lot of money building one and probably will not have as fine a rifle as a CZ when finished, but that is probably just because I have wanted the 527 American for a long long time.

The eBay price probably reflects the very few people who use this cartridge that I plan to load from 22LR to almost 222 Remington ballistics. The 527 American is graceful enough to pass for a 22 and the cost of a box of reloaded 221 less than decent 22LR. Now figuring out a scope and starting to look for a cheap used neck sizing die in good condition.

This is the rifle I have. Bought it about 10 years ago. Love the set trigger. The Fireball is a neat little round.

The 221 FB is a neat little cartridge with excellent accuracy potential and very economical too. I have a 10" heavy barrel in a Contender and I am amazed at the accuracy it delivers. Good luck and shoot safe.

223 seat die would not be aligning your bullet to case. IMHO concentricity results would be very poor.

Why not buy a Wilson straight-line chamber type seater? You can fit a Sinclair micrometer head for real precision. I use them to load .22 Hornet & .222 Rem. No need for arbor press..palm of hand works well. One of the oldest and most acccurate seaters made.
