anyone else have trouble with the top alignment screw (helps guide the bracket connecting the handle with the stopper) coming loose?
everyone I know with the lee bottom pour pot has had trouble
solution? went to home depot and got a 59 cent screw-in eye hook with a similar diameter to the alignment screw, only with longer threads, and screwed it tight down into the pot
now it works fine, and the damn screw doesn't come loose (so far)

Just be careful that longer screw doesn't come i contact with any bare wires inside the casing.

when you pull the screw out, you'll see that part of it isn't threaded. that's the part the c-arm/guide thing slides on. all of the screws at home depot were either fully threaded or didn't have enough unthreaded length or were too small. I thought about just JB welding a nail in there, but the package said that JB weld is only good to 550 degrees. this works well (so far). if it fails, i'll just weld a nail to the top of the pot and be done with it.

Does that hook screw have something that will stop the upward motion of the handle?
The original screw is set so that it stops the handle and allows you to regulate the flow of the lead stream. If you don't have that, it's pretty much "all or nothing" with the lead flow. The screw next to the stem adjusts the "start height" so that when you hit the bottom of the other screw, if you start high, you have less flow than if you start low.

Maybe flow regulation doesn't matter to you, but if you can weld a nut at the right height, you can replicate the dimension of the original nut. Great idea with the eye hook though. I keep a crescent wrench on the casting table to re-tighten the nut occasionally.

I took the panel out and flattened the "thread" so the screw had something to bite on.

I just got tired of tightening and re-tightening the thing. like rs rocket said, you could weld a nut on, and I thought of that, but this fix took less than five minutes. welding is next if this doesn't hold, but so far, so good.

Its not a fix but a bandaid. I adjust the flow to about half of full flow. Which I believe minimizes the travel (up and down) of the flow adjustment bar on the screw shaft. That may or may not be what is happening. But it reduces the unscrewing for me.
I also keep a 1/4" socket on a very short extension. Handy. To tighten the upper or lower screw if they loosen.

I've had no real problem with it myself. It has loosened up once....
Now I will give you another tip, get a thumbscrew and one nut same thread as the main rod where the screwdriver slot is located. Put on nut and then thumbscrew and tighten against each other. Now you can quickly adjust flow WITHOUT a screwdriver.... Best thing I have done to the pot! Better than pid.
