Got an old Brown Bair press

i don't know to much about Bair equipment, but I've always liked thd H press design. maybe one day ill find a nice old CH.

clean it up and get it running again and it should serve you well.

Hey, you have the priming unit. I'm jealous. This is the first time I've seen even a pic of one. I like mine. Three shell holders and you can load a cartridge each time you pull the handle. Just have to move the brass each time. I use a powder measure off the press, so I have to take the shell out for that anyway.

Could you post a pic of the back? I'd appreciate it.

Interesting old press! I'd shine that baby up, put on a new coat of paint and put her to work! I would think a design like that could really come in handy! Thanks for sharing!

I like that, shine the posts, bead blast the castings, paint or powder coat, I think I would paint but powder coated it might look great.

The press shown in the pic is pretty similar to the C&H models. They can generate quite a bit of force...certainly enough for resizing especially in the middle station, but I'm not sure about swaging. I assume that the priming unit swings out of the way. The C&H did their priming on the left station with a priming stalk that screwed into the frame boss. Also the C&H had a small cup which caught spent primers. If the priming unit shown does in fact swing out of the way unless you fabricate something you will have spent primers all over the bench and floor. You can make a small cup catcher out of one of those little shampoo sample bottles like they have in motels....cut the top of and punch a hole in both sides and attach it with a piece of wire wrapped up and around the shell holder and position it under the SH so that the spent primers fall through into it. I bought an old Herter's Super 9 press, similar double ram style a year or so back all rusted fast. Got the rust all removed and need to get back on it and get her working. It's the only one I have ever seen, and could only find a few pictures, but it was apparently a close copy of the Dunbar press which there are more pictures of floating around the web.

There must be some reason why the double ram style didn't catch on, are they harder to keep things concentric with than single designs?

I have One , I don.t use the primer Feed but works well. The only problem Is The material used in the Primer Feed is very Brittle. all the ones I have seen were broken or Cracked.. . If you look @it it is very narrow on the bottom and all the pressure is there. Once it cracks . a perfect repair is almost impossible . any tubes can be used but Pacific Or Bair works the Best . The solid Brass ones.. The primer post put a lot of Pressure on the Plastic material.

I prime with an RCBS hand primer anyway. I like mine and use it frequently. That and my Hollywood Sr. are my most used presses.

was gifted one of these awhile back. Going to get it up and running. Mine has the fully functional priming unit as well, but I have hand primed on RCBS toll since day one over 30 yrs ago...

Disassemble and clean with dish soap using a military tooth brush and a brass wire brush.
The paint is good, but dirty.

Cool old press. Thanks for the phots. I'd love to see her after a little cleanup and rust mitigation. What can you tell me about how the shell holders work? I can't tell if they're removable or not.

First thing I thought when I saw the pic, this press just needs a good gentle soak cleaning. I love cleaning up old things like this press.

Original shell holders use a tiny screw to hold the shell holder in place. They use standard RCBS style shell holders.
