Need some advice on broken fillet knife

From the experience and one on one experience of a "retired" guide I purchased a Lakota fillet knife yrs ago. Getting ready for this yrs canoe/camping fishing trip I pulled the Fishhawk out of its sheath only to discover its tip was broken off

Must have happened two yrs ago on last trip as this is the only time it gets brought out of safe, I like it that much.

Wondering if anyone may have some suggestions before I go and re-shape it? or how to re-shape it?? this knife is made for filleting fish so nice point helps.

It should be ok to reshape the point. Just go slow and use something to keep from over heating the metal.

It might be easier to back some emery cloth wet dry paper on a flat piece of steel to reshape the point and rework then a fine stone and strop to finish resharpening. Most grinders will have way to coarse a wheel on them for this type of work.

I put one in a vise, reshaped with a file, then resharpened. Fast and easy.
The solid soft lead bullet is undoubtably the best and most satisfactory expanding bullet that has ever been designed. It invariably mushrooms perfectly, and never breaks up. With the metal base that is essential for velocities of 2000 f.s. and upwards to protect the naked base, these metal-based soft lead bullets are splendid.

Forget everything you know about loading jacketed bullets. This is a whole new ball game!

Thought about sending it back the Lakota and having it reshaped? I did that with my Spiderco when the serrations needed to be reground.

yep waksupi and pworley1 nailed it. Go slow, keep the heat down, and keep it locked in a vice while doing the heavy shaping so it doesn't move on ya. Should be fine.

Yes I can be long winded. Yes I follow rabbit trails. Yes I admit when I am wrong. Your mileage may vary.

You got me curious so I searched Lakota FishHawk and found this. Don't know if it will help but is a pretty good story.
