I was using Federal primers as well and I was getting a kind of mushroom effect. It might have just been my priming technique. None the less I really like the way they prime after uniforming the pockets..........

For those of you thinking about getting a Henry Carbine. I was going to wait to order one with side gate loading but asked the company if they were going to even make guns in .327 or .41 Magnum anymore because these calibers are not listed with all the others in the side gate loading listings...

"Thank you for your interest, and order, Bob.

I'm sorry, we don't offer any aftermarket services beyond Warranty/Repair.

We intend to keep .41 magnum and .327 Fed Mag models in Production but neither are being planned with a side gate at this time.

I was also waiting for a side gate. Guess I will just have to get by without a Henry of any kind. I have Marlins in .41 and .32.

Ordered one through my local dealer yesterday...probably won't come in for a while. I figure if no one buys then Henry will just discontinue making .41s. I have three Marlins in .41 but I don't really want to hunt in bad weather with a $2K collectable...and that is close to what the S, CCL and FG are bringing. Three days ago a Seller on GunBroker had a LTD with a BuyNow of $3K and it didn't last long...

I have had my Henry .41 for about 3 years and I am very happy with it -- I personally do not ever think about side loading-- not telling any one else what to think-- I never think of that, as my Henry feeds and shoots well. I would be good either way to load

Worked real well on a plain base bullet, no leading and have had issues with faster powders. Was accurate too. 23.0 is about the most you can get in the case and it avg 1148fps. First load was better. I know you can get the same speed or more with less powder but this seems to be working quite well and is actually low pressure compared to other top loads. Also working with it in 44 mag. Anyone else try this?
Doing development with the usual revolver powders for this 297 grain gas checked flat point design in a NEF single shot rebored to .41; working my way towards IMR4198 and other such powders.

Taking baby steps forwards due to the dearth of data.
The forward bore riding portion is sized to be an exact bore rider.
The length from the base to the crimp groove was made short as practical to preserve a lot of powder space.

The SWC's are a smidgen over 240. The pointy ones are 220.

    Not yet.
The loads are on the bench, the chrono is on the tripod... and it seems like I'm either working on the kitchen cabinets or something else or else watching it snow.

OMG, I love that mould! I have a 250 gr. and 275 gr. WFN that I use in my 657 for hunting, have not located anything with more weight that will fit the cylinder and leave enough powder space.

I would have thought they were all on the same receiver.

    ”Wants” vs “Needs”
    I have a 3” GP100 in 10mm and love it! But I have a desire for either a GP or S&W “L” frame 4” in .41 Special.
I get @1,200fps with 180gr jhp and a bit over 1,100fps with 200gr cast or jacketed. After buying a revolver, send it to a smith and wait 2 years to get it back can I expect appreciably better from a .41 Special?

You'll get a cast 250 to 1200, or a 230 to 1250 for steamboat loads in 41special, and a 215 to an easy mild 1000 if something mid-road is more what you're interested in. Basically magnum performance out of a midframe, without COAL length concerns the way many magnum custom jobs err to in midframe cylinders.

That's the 41special advantage far as I'm concerned.. it makes for a very capable all-around carry round in a strong, easy to carry package
