Well I traded into the TI Tracker, I like it. Got 40rnds of gold dots in the trade and they shoot well. The trigger guard hits my knuckle but a 20$ grip is on the way. I have special brass so this is going to be a 41Special for me. Ordered a lee 195 mould and dies this weekend. Now just gotta resist the urge to shoot up that expensive factory stuff. First loads will be the Lee bullet with Unique for about 900fps and some .433 balls stuffed thru the sizer for a powderpuff. I need to check the throats, maybe tonight, and see what I need for bullet size.
I am also going o work up a shot load for creek fishing. Looks like a 410 wad will make a good shot container. Will post how that goes on this thread. Interested if any one else has any thoughts on shot shell loads for a 41.
Anyway this is my first 41, looking forward to the ride (and finding a 1/2 shroud gp100 for Mr Clements to fixup) OH , I asked about removing the underlugs, he will no longer do that

If you have .41 Special brass that is really the way to go with a Tracker as the cylinder is shorter than most other .41s other than a Freedom Arms 97. 7.0 grains of Unique with a 210 will run in the mid 900s.

For a shot load using .41 Magnum brass, I loaded 5.0 grains of Unique, inserted a gascheck cup up pushed down on top of the powder, filled the rest of the case with shot and then another gascheck cup down to cap the top and then a good crimp.

Another effective load is to leave a little of the shot out and use a sized .410 ball crimped in place to hold the shot in. Ball seems to shoot to POA at 10 yards.

I got lucky and bought 250rnds of Starline 44 Special so should be set for a while. A friend told me he has a box of 41Mag reloads he got in a junk box. So here is some more after the pull down, I ain't shooting junkbox reloads! My goodies from Titan will be here tomorrow, and I checked the throats a little while ago. Throats are .4115 , .412 will not start in a single one Guess I'll be opening my pushthru a tad, as it's supposed to be .410. Expecting .4105 if it's like my others.

I'm thinking I need a NOE 412259 super wide FN in HP to keep the little Lee company,, any thoughts ?

Also RJM52, have you seen any accuracy issues with a PB cast and the ports causing bullet base dammage? My revolver does not show an expansion chamber, ports straight into the rifling. I am thinking that maybe should use a GC on my hunting bullet due to the porting?????

Cast up some SAECO #415 220gr TCGC 41 cal boolits

Like it, I expect it will settle down when I get the sprue screw tension figured out. The sprue plate is a little tight...

I did a stint with a borrowed Ti Tracker in .41 mag and really tried to get my wife to look for one .... she rides her horse in the mountains and her chosen HG is a Smith 60 in .38 special ........ makes my hair stand on end that she does not pack enough gun.

I showed her the Tracker and she thought it was "too big" ......... Judis Priest!

Anyway the Tracker went home .... it was not for sale or I might of bought it myself ........ yes, I liked it!

A couple of years later, I was in one of my favorite haunts to make firearm sorts of "finds" and it was right around Christmas .... also a good time if you have some residual jingle .......... and I did!

Well right there in front and center was a DW in 6" blued that for all the world looked like it was brand new and a price tag of $265 ........

.......... and next to it .......... a Smith 57 with an 8" for $365 and it had one and only one of the tiniest little scratches out near the muzzle .........

I went home and stewed about all of this ......... then I called the shop ........ and offered a slightly lower sum for both. It turned out both revos were on consignment from the same fellow. Needless to say, the shop accepted my offer and the rest is history.

Quite frankly my potatoes get buttered more with the .44 and the .480 calibers but make no mistake ........ I still have the Smith and my Dan Wesson .... it's for sure ain't going no where!

    Best regards

rking....have had no problem with accuracy using cast boolits in the Tracker.

My preferred bullet for that gun is the Accurate Molds 41-215V...with a .37 meplate it can't get much bigger and not be a wadcutter.

Anyone but me try IMR 4198 in the 41 mag? I shot a load of 22.0 grains with a accurate 41-250a bullet. Avg was1093 fps with a extreme spread of 12.7. Out of old model Blackhawk 4 5/8. Worked real well on a plain base bullet, no leading and have had issues with faster powders. Was accurate too. 23.0 is about the most you can get in the case and it avg 1148fps. First load was better. I know you can get the same speed or more with less powder but this seems to be working quite well and is actually low pressure compared to other top loads. Also working with it in 44 mag. Anyone else try this?

They were 6" without the underlugs. First year production (1980?) had no underlugs. To me, those are far more desirable.
Cut to 5" and with proper sized holes installed, they are 38 oz of heaven.

I've shot the #258 Keith bullet from Montana Bullet works over 19gr of 2400 from my 4 5/8" Ruger BH with awesome accuracy. But man that load really smarts with the factory cheese grader stocks that they're using these days. I couldn't imagine shooting the 18gr of H110/296 285gr SSk load through my BH. Just thinking about it makes my hands tremble as I type this.

BTW can anyone recommend some good grips that won't break the bank for my BH? They must be able to fit the grip frame that has the lock. I can't stand the current stocks as their to thin, I need something thicker.

336A..I know your pain... I had one of the limited edition Flat Tops with the same grips and the smaller New Vaquero gripframe. Not sure where I got them but picked up a nice set of bonded ivory that was just a little thicker than stock and they worked very well.

Got to chronograph some heavy cast loads today. They were a 250s from Accurate 41-250L and a 300 from Mountain Molds....

    6" Freedom Arms 654

    41-250L

    300 MM

A 5.5" Gary Reeder Custom shot both loads to almost the same same velocity...

100 yards with the FA and 300 grain boolits...

100 yards with the Reeder and 250s...dropped one off the target low when my eyes lost focus...

A good day at the range...

Thanks for the link RJM, one question though is do those grips work for the Rugers that have the lock?

Here is some more .41 Magnum info to contribute to the thread.

My gun had the lock in it.... You just need to make sure you tell them which frame size you have and that gun gun is one of the newer ones with the lock.

Thanks for posting that article...I have that magazine in my collection..

Exclamation Ed has tracking number on shipment... My 41 is so close!!!

God help us, all this fantasizing about a .41 Rem Mag Contender barrel has got me so wore out, I can barely walk, it seems. Ed has a shipment inbound, and I've got my plastic waiting in my hand...

Got the brass, bullets, boolits, sizer, dies, TP, primers, powder, frame, stock, scope base, but... no barrel..

Can't sleep, counting Brittanies jumping over me instead...
