Yes, I would use a lee universal expanding die with a noe insert for proper case expansion with the cast bullet. The lee die as is will just bell the case mouth

I use Redding myself, and have switched almost entirely to Redding gear for all my handloading dies. For 41special all I had to do was mill about an eighth off the very bottom of the seater/crimper so it works with short special-brass, but on the expander belling-die it reaches just enough with the plug screwed right down all the way in ... this is using the 41mag - three die set.

Very good dies if somebody is in the market for the whole shebang and just starting into it.

My .41 Special has been loaded on a Dillon 550 and zero issues with expanding cases.. Crimp is put on with a Lee carbide factory crimp die.

Got a deal this afternoon while surfing the .41s on GunBroker. A pawn shop had just listed a 657-4 3" Performance Center gun with a set price of $930 plus $15.00 shipping. Since these usually sell for $1500+ I decided it was too good a deal to pass up...

Should be at my dealer at the end of the week but I'm visiting friends in Texas so will be a while before I see it...

I would like opinions on the value of a firearm I won on a GunBroker auction. I believe I paid probably the going price for the revolver. It is a used Ruger Davidsons Exclusive Super Blackhawk Hunter in 41 magnum. I've only seen photographs of the revolver at this point. I talked to the original and only owner by phone yesterday. He stated that the revolver was in his opinion, 95%. He stated that the only reason he didn't give it a 100%, was that other people opinions may vary from his. He ad fired approximately 450 rounds through it. He stated finish and grips are excellent.
My total price paid is 720.00 including shipping. So, did I do ok, or not?

That doesn't sound bad to me. You don't see them for sale every day. You may not ever get a chance to buy another one..........

That is a good price....they are also very accurate guns. Sounds like it isn't even broken in yet..

That's what I was hoping.
I bought it so I could semi-retire my model 57. Over the past 49 years, I've fired thousands of rounds through the old girl. Very very little double action. Maybe half dozen boxes of factory ammo. My go to load for years was the Lyman 410459 cast of ww alloy, over 8 grains of Unique. I did switch over to Herco powder probably about 6 years ago. Been stoking some loads with Alliant 2400. I ran out of H-110, so with the new to me sbh hunter coming, I'll be getting some more.

A 57 with 8.0 grains of Unique will last till the hammer and trigger need replacing...well over 10K rounds...

The Ruger should last forever....

Hello .41 fans...need some advice. I acquired some old Speer jacketed HP & FP bullets without a crimp groove, and I’m not sure how/where/what kind of crimp I should use to keep them from creeping further back (correction: creeping out) in the case when fired from my NMBH and Henry levergun.

You should send those nasty things to me. But in lue of that, I used to crimp my Speer magnum soft point 44s like those, just at the top of the jacket.

Thanks, Minerat, was thinking that’s the only place to crimp. I will be using a Lee FCD to roll crimp ‘em.

I always used the built in roll crimp on the RCBS dies so you should be fine. Nice find by the way.
