Those are 2 nice revolvers RJM. I really like that 657.
Due to the price of primers, warning shots will no longer be given!

Hey Bob , not only are those nice looking 41's , but really nice shooting . That 8.0 gr load of Unique works well for you . My favorite in 8.5 grs of WSF . I just got another 8# jug of WSF this last week . Probably about the same velocity . Regards, Paul

Hey Bob, that one nice revolver.
I just picked up my new to me Ruger SBH Hunter today. What a beauty. Rats, gotta start reloading.
What's the best source of information, to take photos and post them. Or, just tell me if it is really, really easy.

Was looking to try the COATED 225gn RNFP boolits from Missouri Bullet Company over some Unique. Has anyone tried out that specific combination?

This would be for shooting in my S&W model 58. I'd like to get a load dailed in with the 225gn boolits that hits to POA with the fixed 'U'-notch rear sight

The heavier boolits I've tried (250gn, 265gn) invariably hit high unless I download the Unique to keep velocity low ... I got pretty close playing with 6.0 - 6.2 Unique and some 250gn WFNGC slugs. But now I'm out of those.

Most anything over the original 210 grain bullets will hit somewhat high...that is what they were regulated for as that was the only grain weight factory ammo made at the time...

I'm shooting the Berry's plated 210s with 8.0 grains of Unique. They run 950 fps exactly the same as the original POLICE loading with the 210 grain swaged lead bullet.

Have had 10 58s over the years and only two didn't shoot right to the sights with 210s... One was a nickel that shot low. Had to use the old 240 grain Lyman RN mold to make that one shoot POA and a blue one that shot left...that one went down the road...

Was wondering why you are trying to use the 225-250 grain bullets in the 58... A 210 will come out the other side of most anything that walks...

.41 Magnum / 41 Special Load Data Center

Hey Bob, heavy-for-caliber has its place!
ďOnly one thing worse than an old aggressive bear and thatís an ANGRY old aggressive bear.
When he did come out it was like a freight train.....I swung with him and the first shot hit him in flank..which got him up on his hind legs and bellowing at me. The second shot caught him in the right side of the chest and I remember at the shot also seeing a small but thick tree getting cut in half behind him. He dropped at that shot but I shot him in the neck to make sure. I sat down on a stump and ate a candy bar watching and waiting and catching my breath... it had been much more dramatic than I ever thought it would be....7 or 8 minutes and no movement...gun at the ready I went up and poked him in the eye with a stick...he was dead.Ē

ďBut the all time killer bullet for the 41 magnum in my battery is the 240 SWC in the Keith shape or Cast Performanceís WFN. 18.5 grains of Accu#9 under the Keith gives it 1560 fps/almost 1300 ft.lbs. But the penetration is just incredible. It will go long ways thru an animal as big as an Elk with ease. It had no problem with a steer twice the weight of an Elk. The steer was looping away from me at 40 plus yards, the bullet entrance hit low under the tail, went all the way forward and broke the front right leg!Ē

'Cause I've got a case of 500 of them sitting on a shelf in my reloading room collecting dust.

    Bob, ... focus, dude.

The boolits in question are MB's 225gn coated FPs ... Do you have any relevant load data?

225s...coated, plain, powder coated...not going to make any appreciable difference...

I have run 210s, 212s, 215s, 220s and 230s all with 8.0 grains of Unique and they have all run between 930 and 1000 fps.

In a fixed sight 58 225s may shoot a little high. Only way to know is shoot some...but 8.0 is a good place to start.

What I do is start at 10 yards and back up 5 yards at a time. I patch the target after each string and mark them so I know which were which. Just did that yesterday with a Freedom Arms 97 .41, a S&W 657 MG and a new to me SIG P210...

griff...I have read all of Paco's writings...have yet to figure out how he gets 1560 fps from a 240 cast in a 4 5/8" Ruger...

I figure olí Paco has read up on Elmer Keith and Bill Jordan, who were known to have pushed revolvers to the breaking point. (Donít forget whose idea it was to make the forgotten magnum to begin with...)

Nick...let us know how things work out and where the 225s shoot...have you ever had any 210s to see where they shoot in relation to POA?

griff...Paco's 800X loads scare me.... AAC-9 at least is slow burning enough to be somewhat forgiving....

    Yes.

The 210s & 215s I played with using Unique hit to POA with my 58's regulated sights if I did my part.

After testing different loads of Unique with a batch of CP's 250gn FP boolits, I found one that would hit pretty much to POA.

Nick...that is what I figured...and with 250s you had to get down to 6.5 grains to get close to POA??

If you are higher than your liking with the 225s and 8.0, maybe 7.0 will work...

.41 Magnum / 41 Special Load Data Center

Bob, Iím still relatively new to reloading, so no hot-rodding for me. Thatís the reason Iím going with heavy-for-caliber loads, more oomph with less bang-dust.
    (Fat boolits need love, too!)

I too have read Pacos stuff and all I can say is I have never been able to even approach his loads. I have never really tried, for the .41s I had would not. He even says in one article that the +p+ loads do not seem to kill any better than some what lessor loads. I am not doggin him as he is a good writer, and says the truth about the .41. In contrast hickook45 did a vid on the .41 and he just dripped boredom, dis interest, just no use for it, who cares. He is normally good but not that time. I have had a .44 mag, .45 colt and a .454. I do not have them now because for me, a.41 is all I currently want.

My favorite bullets for the 41 magnum is H&G 258 ( Keith 220gr swc) , LBT 210 LFN , LBT 220 WFN and the Accurate Mold 41-240F . 240 gr is as heavy as I go in a hand gun . I'm finding keeping my loads under 1050 fps (approximately) is where the most fun is for me . Instead of 8.0grs of Unique , my favorite is 8.5grs of WSF (Winchester Super Field ) . With the LBT 210 LFN I increase .5gr as it has a very short shank in the case . I do make a few full magnum loads just to keep my hand in at the end of a range session . I have a very nice Ruger NMBH in 41 magnum , 4 5/8" barrel . For me , keeping the performance more in line with the 38-40 WCF is where the fun really is with that particular gun . Regards Paul

Oh boy....how many Boolit Molds do you guys have for just .41s...I have ...too many...

Mine run from a 165 grain Lee wadcutter to a 300 grain LBT style from Mountain Molds...several different weight Keiths, TrueShot, flat point, round nose, petnta-point, big HPs, small HPs...gas checked and plain base...

    Anyone else have this problem...
