I hate to admit it, but I did what was primarily, first and foremost price shopping.. the gun stuff piggy bank is empty right now.

Then refined it by style shopping... Then re-evaluated and compromised based on who would sell less than 500 at a time... which isn't many guys that do 41s!

Ended up with these beauties that came today, a 225grn WFN from GTbullets.





Got about 9 days coming of sub 0F temps (-10 to -30) should give me enough down time to get my grips finished, brass cleaned, and load up and have a small range report when it warms up.

I got an NOE 412-238-WFNGC mold. I have been busy lately and had no chance to try some loads. I finally got out to shoot a little today. The cylinder on my Ruger is exactly the way I like it, it will just pass a factory bullet with a little resistance at 0.410". I sized the bullets with a .410 sizer (RCBS) and they were coming out a shade over .411 and they just seemed too tight for my liking. I got a .409 sizer (Lyman) and they are coming out right at .410 on the nose. The bullets with gas checks weigh 240 grains. I used Carnauba Red lube with Gator gas checks. Although I had cleaned out my lubrisizer, it still had some traces of old lube on some of the first bullets to come out. I picked out 10 with all red or mostly red lube and set them aside to accuracy test. The mold is a 5 cavity and very consistent in size. I used new Starline brass with average OAL of 1.681. The shortest of 40 I loaded was 1.679 and the longest 1.682. I could not find data for this bullet but I have had great luck with AA-9 in the 41 mag. I wanted enough pressure to seal the cases well but still leave a good safety margin so I went with 16.0 grains. I had one errant reading of the 10 I set aside to accuracy test but the other 9 averaged 1228 fps from my 5.5" barrel. What was more impressive was the fastest was 1241 and the slowest 1215. The primers showed no signs of pressure and I could lift the fired cases 1/2 way out and release the extractor and they would all fall back into the cylinder. You could safely bring the charge up but it was 19 degrees when I finished so I like a big safety margin for warmer weather. Accuracy showed good promise at 2.125" for the 10-shots @ 25 yards. An added bonus was this load was almost the same POI as what I had my revolver zeroed for. Sectional density for this bullet is .204 making it a great hunting round. I am very pleased with the mold and the load. Hope this helps someone out.

Good looking Boolits. Twins to my 412640 MP it looks like. I place mine over 5 grains of Tightgroup in 41 Mag brass and enjoy in my Smith and Henry.

First loads I ran thru my 41 RBH 4-5/8" were SR4756 - 10 gr under a 170 gr LFP I picked up as a small gun shop. For a plinking load they were really fun and shot almost like a 22 out of the heavy gun. The last Crono'ed loads were thru a Henry Big Boy 8,.0 gr Unique under a 207 gr Penta HP - MH 413640, ave 1215 fps.

I finally got to go out and sight in my 41 Henry 20" after installing Skinner receiver peep and brass front. The Henry is by far the funnest gun to shoot I've ever owned.

ranchman - Have only had it a short time (Christmas) and have not got more then 10 loads, thru it. I have some MP 413265 (Trueshot Clone 265 gr FP.) that I am going to try next. I also have some 41 special brass that I want to try with the 413265 and the 413640's but have not had a chance to get to the range. When I do, I'll post so you know. In the 41 mag cases the 640's fed no problem and the Berry's did the same.

range at approx EL 8500 ft, temp 42 deg F

I have the 20 inch and the data I listed were the first 10 loads thru the gun after I got the sights set. I want to get a peep sight for it too, so will look into the Skinner. It is very fun to shoot, only wish I had taken more ammo for it, but I was working up loads for a 17 Hornet too that day. I think it will eat it up faster then I can cast boolets and reload if not careful.

I've run a few (like, 5 or 6) special length rounds through my big boy, no issues. I was using trueshot 265 gr lfn, so overall length wasn't too different than normal mag brass with an xtp. Load was 7ish gr of unique, felt ok. I can't speak to accuracy, as I am truly a terrible shot with a rifle,but everything was in the black on a B8 at 20 yds, except for 1 flyer (told you I can't shoot rifle worth a damn)

Hello all! I recently(last week) bought my first single action revolver. I had seen an old model three screw Blackhawk in my local gun store and was prepared to give it a thorough check with cash in hand after doing some research and drooling on it a few times. I walk in ready to check cylinder gap and forcing cone wear, with the $600 I knew would take it home, but it wasn't in the counter. Turns out he had sold it the day before on armslist to a fella in NY. I was so sad. Then he says well I just took in a new model .41 that I sold last summer. I'll admit the lack of two of the four clicks was astoundingly silent. However I was able to pick it up for $475 with hardly a blemish on it and an extra set of hogue grips on it. Also got 50 rounds of SWC Bullseye and 20 rounds of hornady JHP for $45. After burning through the SWC ammo I haven't quite gotten the accuracy out of it that I know is possible, but I'm looking forward to honing my skills further.

Ok the real reason I joined, other than the incredible pics...

im looking for a recipe using 210gr hornady JHP over 296 powder for WV white tails... I loaded up some 210 SWC over 8.0gr of unique this evening for fun and targets.

I get 1500fps out if a 7.5" Blackhawk using 22 grains of H110 and a 210 XTP. 296 and H110 are supposed to be the same, but you may want to work up to it by starting at 20 grains or so.

You will want to hold on tight!

Finally had a good casting session with a MeHic .41 Wadcutter mold I bought last year.... First casting session just didn't go well at all...this one started throwing good bullets after just a few pours...

Going to load these up in .41 Special cases with some fast burning powder to make 1000-1100 fps in a 4" Tracker...

DealerJoe.... Was the 3-Screw a .41 also? You may have lucked out missing it as if it was an early one the front sights were made too low and they all shot very high...

As to your white-tail deer load... I like the Sierra 170 JHC with 26.0 grains of H110...velocity from a 6.5" Blackhawk is 1625 fps... It is a very heavily constructed hunting bullet and just doesn't come apart like a lightly constructed personal defense bullet will. It is Gary Reeder (Reeder Custom Gun) favorite game bullet for his .41s.

And as Blain said, any good 210 with 21-23 grains of H110/296 will kill them dead as a stone also....

Now you need a nice lever gun to go with it...

I know this is Cast Boolits, but midway has 210 gr Speer DeepCurl (formerly Gold Dot) bullets for $.26 per. I've been looking for this Bullet or loaded gold dots for months now.

Thinking of running some hard cast 250-255 gas checked in my new 657 no dash. Here it is hiding out in its fancy holster.

I've run the commercial cast LBT 250 grain solids in the past but open to suggestions.
