    K-31 311 - 180gr NOE Mould

Does anyone have any comments, good, bad, ugly on the K-31 311-180gr NOE Mould for the K31 Swiss.

I just purchased a K31 Swiss from a forum member and will be needing a boolit mould. I have some Norma brass on the way and will be getting the Redding dies.

If I had some 2400 a 16gr charge would be the ticket, but I have no 2400, nor have a seen any in quite some time to purchase. Will probably be using some 3031.

    Any comments would be helpful.

Good bullet, I use it in a K-31 and a 1911, 16 gr. of 2400 and it will drive nails. Can't speak of 3031. If you want to try some before you buy the mould, let me know.

25gr of 3031 might be a good choice.

    Don't know that it's the equivalent of 2400 @ 16gr, but it's what I have used with a 170gr bullet.

I'm quite pleased with that mould and the K31. Haven't tried 3031, with cast, in it yet though.

25 g of 3031 works well in my K31 using the Lee 312-155 sized at .311

I also have the mold and like it. Mine is being modified to make the grease groove shallower, as it is a weak spot when you try to push the velocity.

While I probably will not be pushing mine that hard, I am interested. At what velocity did you start to see issues with the K31 boolit?

Never chronographed the load, but anything over 28.5gr of H4895 started to disperse rather rapidly, and at 30.0 gr, occasionally two holes would appear on target with one shot. The main problem is probably the fact that they are powdercoated, so there is no grease in the groove to keep it from collapsing.

The noe k31 mold is great for the tight throats, but if you have one that's been shot alot with some erosion you'll be better served with the typical 30 cal molds. If you already have some 30 molds you might want to try them first or at least do a pound cast.

Then on the other hand, if you have a K31 with a really tight throat, the bullet might not fit. In my SIG made rifle, which has a .294 bore, .3055groove, I have to seat below the neck/shoulder junction. I have a die that bumps down the taper ahead of the lube groove that'll give me a proper fit. Doesn't touch the ogive, just the taper. Others report a good fit as is, just depends on the rifle.

The noe k31 mold is made specifically for those tight throat k31 and it works perfectly.

If that 311299 fits the k31 you have a eroded throat, nothing wrong with it and it's not lost any accuracy and can be better for the reason of more design choices.
