Probably THE dumbest question ever asked

    I have a Rock River Arms LAR-15.

I decided to put a sling on it to carry it plus all my krap to the range benches.

However, there is no Sling Swivel on the butt stock.

Never saw such swivel "holes" like these.

Huge holes. "B" must be for a side swivel and "A" for a bottom swivel.

Can anyone educate me on what kind of swivels I need to buy so that I can
put a sling on it ? I'd like to get a bottom Swivel.
I don't see any on Midway's Web Site or in Natchez's Catalog.

The front end actually has TWO swivels - one on the front sight and one
on a clamp between the front sight arms.

I am used to older 'antique' swivels.

Those holes are for quick detach sling swivels. The QD swivels have a button detent that allows a user to very easily release a sling swivel.

    Holy Mackerel, Andy !

The swivel ($15) PLUS the Adapter ($30) with shipping ($8 ?)
would cost me $53 ! Lord God in Heaven ! This rifle is a "Money Pit"

I wonder if a large Key Ring circle and a 'regular' rifle sling swivel
could be made to work ?

One of these of the appropriate size

or one of these soldered shut

or a combination of both together.....

    $53 for one rear swivel.....lol

There are a gozillion AR's around, so you'd think the swivels would be
inexpensive....ha. They think they've got us by the......

"Lets not make this a contest"....why not ?

They make EVERYTHING into a contest now on TV !

Have you seen some of the so called cooking shows on TV ?

Three people have to make a Dinner for the Queen in 30 minutes out of
Used Cat Litter and rotten vegetables, with one foot in a bucket and
superglued together fingers while Danny Flay whistles The Irish National
Anthem ! Giada DeLorenzi and Martha Stuart judge the taste and presentation....

    anyway, looking at my picture....

What is that long SLOT right in front of "B" for ?

I'll try putting my sling thru THAT !

If this is a Military Type Stock, WHAT does the Military use ?

Our m4's had something like this.

    http://www.brownells.com/shooting-ac...prod30935.aspx

Much more durable and works very well with the proper sling in close quarters. If you attach to the arrow marked holes it will function ok as a shoulder sling but not as a stabilizing/retention sling.

    That was my first thought.

Back before the "new and improooved" single point slings (can anyone say 'nineteenth century cavalry carbine sling?') became popular, I saw a lot of SEAL's use the padded M-60 sling attached however they could to the various configurations of M-16's.

Looking thru a local gun trader web site, someone has a newer
RRA for sale and this photo. I edited it to just show how the
sling is attached - with a RING.

Can't tell if it is a keychain type ring or what.

I bought some at "Office Depot" in a variety bag.

I plan to 'solder' the ends together once it is on the rifle to make
sure it doesn't come open and dump my baby on some concrete
    or asphalt somewhere.

Think I will peruse the Carabiners available, also.

You should be able to find a quick detach sling swivels cheap if you look hard enough. I think I picked up a couple for around 4 or 5 bucks last year. Maybe they are UTG's
I bought 100 3/4" split key rings last year off of e bay cheap.

Hells Bells - I put the sling thru that slot

    It works. That's that.

I refuse to spend any more time and/or money on this !

Why do they make such elaborate and complicated designs to
simply put a sling on the AR ?

The front sling swivel is as simple as dirt. Why make the rear one
so complex and expensive just to have a sling ?

    Different strokes for different folks....

Let us put this to bed.

In my opinion, most AR accessories are designed to separate AR owners from their money, just as fishing lures are designed to separate fishermen from theirs.

That's not saying that there aren't some useful AR accessories, or some decent fishing lures.

    I hate M-4's.
a 20" barrel and a stock is just fine with me.
a free floating hand guard, and a removable 'carry handle' [which if I would have carried it by that handle I'd have had a hard time removing the rifle from my orifice] for a scope is about all the options I need.
that makes the sling thing, a go to the army surplus store and get a sling for 5 bucks deal.
    which is what I did.
