Ohaus 10-10 scale - missing counterweight

Many, many years ago, I replaced my old Herters, oil dampened scale with an Ohaus 10-10 and have been using it all those years with zero problems.

Somewhere during during that time, I lost the brass counter weight used when weighing items over 500 gr.

I would like to find a replacement or, failing that, have one made from brass stock.

Does anyone know of a source for the weights or could someone, who has access to one of the counter weights, post the actual weight in grains?

    Thanks.

P.S. I did some rough measuring and basic calculations that indicated the counter weight should weigh 250 grains as the counter weight is hung at just about twice the distance from the pivot as compared to the distance from the pivot to where the pan is hung. However, I've been playing with math long enough to know that my math predictions are usually speculation untill verified by real world experience.

I would pretend it was painted green, then I would call RCBS, they are super about taking care of their customers.

My Lyman M5 scale weight is stamped act. wt. 260.9 gn.

The tan Ohaus 10-10 that I bought to replace it (the M5) is stamped act. wt. 250 gn.

My suggestion is that if you make a new one start on the large size, then check it with known weights as you file it down to size.

    Hope this helps,

    Robert

Just call RCBS. If they have in it stock, they'll send you one.

    Thanks Guys.

I'll give R.C.B.S. a call and, if that doesn't pan out, I should be able to make one, now that I know for sure that my measurements and math are correct.

Wow!! Talk about outstanding customer service!!

Last night I emailed R.C.B.S. with the following message.

I have an old 10-10 powder scale that is missing the 250 grain counter weight.
Can I purchase a new one from you?
    Thank you for your consideration

My faith in humanity has just received a mighty boost.

And I just now remembered that my R.C.B.S. Concentricity Gauge is missing the neck thickness adapter. I hate to seem like an opportunist, so I'll just wait a while on that one.

RCBS customer service is so good I am sometimes embarrassed to use it. Have been known to wait or buy a part from a shop that I know they would give me for free.

RCBS Refered me direct to Ohaus for an older 304 scale. After a trip there and back, they said it was an out of production scale and could not be repaired. I since have found a replacement 304 scale. Best mechanical scale out there in my opinion.
