I went through 2 new redfields quick on my Encore and my brother went through 2 vortex on his Handi in 35 whelen. I went back to leupold and no more problems. I put a varix11 on mine, but the rifleman series are a lot cheaper or a varix 1.

I'd get leupold rings and a 3x9x40 leupold scope.
Just a quick update. I ordered a 360 230Gr. RF RG2 cavity GC (RD) Brass mould from NOE. Will post further updates when I cast some boolits with it and also how it shoots.
That's a great mold!

I bought a Handi Rifle in .35 Whelen on the tenth of this month. Shot it on Wednesday at 50 yards load #2 3 ¼” x 3 7/8”. Load #3 1 ¾” x 2 5/16”

The Dacron filler really made a difference.

The thing that holds me back right now is forming the brass. I am using some white wax that has been repackaged (by me years ago) to lube the cases. I think it was Hornady in a plastic tub. I am also using it in the case neck. I roll a nylon bristle brush in the lube and put a liberal coat in the case neck. It is working very well with the FC brass. The loss with Winchester brass was about 33% mostly split necks.
I will be working up with the powder weight looking for best groups. Where I hunt a 50 yard shot is about as far as it gets. The velocity I got with 200 Gn. + boolit should do for deer.

Great mould indeed. Coming close to a good hunting load with 54gs IMR 4350. Dress code for my party is BAC or possibly NRA 50/50 lube, GC and a heat treated alloy of 50/50 WW/PB plus a touch of tin. I'm using BAC now but NRA gave acceptable results. YMMV, still working on this load but it's looking good.

Some of my favorite recipes start out with a handful of depleted counterbalance devices.
What size is your rcbs 35-200 FN mould dropping at?
My throat on my 35 Whelen is .361.
I would like to know before I buy one, thanks.
FWIW--I shot some of the NOE 360-318 cup point,(245g) and solid point boolits(252g) with my load of 17g of Unique, out of the same 1:16 twist Rem 700CDL and the 5 shot "groups" were over 3" at 100 yards. Looks like this gun needs the deep hollow point version (235g) in order to get decent accuracy.
Next I'm gonna try some of the cup point, hollow points and solids in my 1:12 twist Whelen to see what happens.
It's all chicken, even the beak!
FWIW, I've been using IMR4064 with the NOE 360-230 HP's (214gr), the last time I chronographed it, it averaged 2560 FPS. I tried another 1/2gr and the group shrunk some (2 1/2" 10 shots, 100 yds). I'm hoping that I'm creeping up onto a new accuracy node. I know it's much too fast for hunting so, it's just for giggles. My start load was 48gr IMR4064 and it was a very comfortable and accurate load but, I didn't put the chrony on it.
Gave the mould a whirl today and she works great. The bullets dint work with the lyman seater I have for my 35w dies though. What are you all using to seat them?
I just use the same ol' RCBS 35 Whelen F/L seating die with no modifications or anything special. In MY rifle, I'm seating to an O.A.L. of 3.015" with the NOE 360-230 214gr HP's, YMMV.
