Suggestions needed for a Savage '99

I have almost wrapped up my most recent build...a rebuild of a Savage 99C. The barrel is an octagon to round barrel (McGowen) in .308. To keep things "clean" iron sights will be omitted. The gun will be used mainly for hunting where shots will be no more than 200yds. I really need suggestions as to what scope to put on top/compliment the gun without taking away from its lines, etc. I am looking at Lyman Alaskans, Weaver K series and the newer Leupold VX 3's 1.5-5 power. Variable power is not a must and reticle preference is a German #4. Have I overlooked any scope models, features, etc.? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

It may not be vintage but the new glass is far superior to the old stuff. Thats my take on a 200yd shot.

that vx3 would be a nice piece on it. If it were mine though id go with a vx2 1x4. Not as much gold bling on it so it looks a bit classier on an old gun to me and the new vx2s are better opticaly then the varix III was just a few years ago. One of the best bang for the buck on he market.

I'd go with the 1.5/5. Would be good for close shots. If you can, check out a tapered crosshair. I have a old B+L baleight with them and they are great. It draws your focus right to the center of the scope. Otherwise, post and crosshairs is good.

Greetings I have the Leopold VX 3 2x8x40 on my savage. When I purchased the gun it was wearing the VX 2 1x4. A good scope but not up to the VX3 plus I needed the higher magnification at the time. Here is a pic of before and after.

I got a vx3 gloss for my Ruger number 1 and it's sharp looking.

Go with the VX-111, alittle pricier than the 11's but you'll enjoy the optical quality of the 111's. I have 1-4s, 1.5-5's, 2.5-8s and 3.5-10's on my hunting rifles but 90% of my hunting is I the woods and the '06 7400 carbine with a 1.5-5 gets reached for more often then not.

Take a look at the Nikon P-223 in 3X32. Same price as a K-4 but shorter and very high quality glass.

Order a FX3 with the German #4 from Leupold.

I like period correct or close to on older rifles. I vote for the old standard Weaver K4. The K4B would look right to me. Older but still good optics IMHO. The older Weaver variables like the KV 2.75 - 5 doesn't have as bright sight picture the single powers do. I made that mistake once.
