45/70 reloading tray

Got tired of trying to find a reloading tray so I made my own out of a piece of 3/4 x 4 1/2" x 6" long board. Used a 5/8" spade bit and drilled down 3/8". Have 20 holes and it works really nice. Used an oil finish. Seeing how I only reload up to 20 at a time it works really good.

FWIW, I have used the Frankford Arsenal's case specific tray. They're $6 from Midway. They work great too.

Yep, I started to make on too. But, then I found the one listed above at Midway. Just too busy right now and broke down and bought one. The Frankfort Arsenal tray is a nice quality tray for what its worth.

I do want to see pics of the one made! Nothing like nice wood and leather.

I've bought those trays, and made my own as well. The easiest way to make trays is to drill all the way through, then afix your choice of material (metal, masonite, etc) on the bottom. No fiddly stop to set, just YEEHAW on the drill press.

I make all my caliber specific loading blocks. I have a rail for my drill press I made out of aluminum angle. I bolt this down on location for the first row of holes and then only have to alighn one direction. I move the ril after all the blocks have been drilled. 3/8" 221 222 223 22hornet and such, 1/2" 308 case heads size, 5/8" 45 cal rimmed cases magnum cases. I use forester stylr bits for this. I set the stop once and run the batch.

I have a couple of Stalwart wood trays. They work fine for me.

I have a aluminum one for the 458 as well

I have the MTM universal tray, but I have made a couple of wooden ones, which I like better. I rather spend a little time in my shop, than spend $ I can use on other stuff I can't make. I have drilled all the way through a board, and glued a bottom as bbqncigars posted. I have also used hand ground brad point drill bits on my drill press. Those trays made by cga look very nice, and I just may have to make me a couple of them.

Good work, Josper. I make mine too. Some 3M 77 spray glue and a piece of either rug stay in place or router hold pad (same stuff) glued to the bottom keeps them from sliding around on the bench.

I have both too, plastic manufactured tray that is a "universal" caliber tray, and caliber specific ones in wood that I made for 223, 45, 9mm. Some of mine aren't as pretty as these pictured here but they work fine.

Rule number one........."Cost is no object as long as it's cheap" Made my own 45-70 .Does the job.(Not a work of art!)
