Range pickup 45acp brass got more complicated

I was watching Sportsman Channel just now and Double Tap has introduced 450 SMC, and I'm probably behind everyone on this, but it's new to me. 1375 fps from a standard 1911. The case is the same outward dementions as the 45acp with heavier lower case for pressure support. No mention of price of ammo, but 10mm velocity from my 45 interests me. Another reason to read headstamps.
Just looked it up and $1.50 -2.00 a shot will keep me from blazing away too freely. Maybe that's why they only fired four shots

what happened to the 460 Rowland?

it's bad enough to have to sort 45 acp brass by primer size now.
try not doing it and your whole operation comes to a big time halt when a small primed case gets mixed in, especially on a 650.

I just use all small primer brass. Then when I inadvertently run across a lp case the primer just won't stick in. I set it aside and keep going. I don't have a 650 so it works that way for me.

Lol, at that price I'm not real worried about that becoming common soon. Sounds interesting though.

Beefier case. Makes me think they are using the old trick of cutting down 308/30-06 cases for heavier base brass.

Out of a 1911, that is smokin'! I've been shooting an Erik Ohlen modified Lyman/ Ideal 452460 HP out of my S&W 625 JM using 45 Auto Rim cases and Unique to 1200 + fps for the past year. I could amp it up a bit, but there is really no need to. At 25 yds I had a hard time digging slugs out of the damp sand berm. Finally found a few about 18" deep. I even regularly hit targets to 100 yards without much holdover, basically a 12 o'clock hold on an 8" target vs a standard 6 o'clock hold, with at least 4 shots in the black and the other 2 on the fringe.

    Cases, box, and boolits:

QL data used for load work up:

Testing target with cases, boolits, and mushroomed slugs:

Please don't use the data in an actual auto pistol, especially without going to a heavy spring and bushing. Good luck and stay safe.

What's the difference between this and the 45 Super?

ETA: Small primer pocket. I answered my own question.

I was thinking the same thing, what about 45 Super? I actually have an Ace Customs 1911 and 500 Starline cases, together with some of Ace's load data. Starline .45 Super has large pockets, never knew it to be otherwise. Come to think of it, THAT's why I have two pounds of Power Pistol sitting around...

    And 451 Detonics, 45-08, 460 Rowland & 460 Rowland Short.

    The wheel keeps getting reinvented.
