best way to coat large numbers of boolits?

I tried shake and bake for the first time some days back.. result was so and so I think. Got poor coverage on boolits so I tried to coat them another time.. better covarage, but quite thick coat. Shot decent after sizing..

But, when I stopped by the local powdercoat shop to ask for some powder to try, it turned out that one of the guys there had been to a range event I hosted a couple of yrs back. He offered to coat boolits for me at the shop ! They have huge walk in baking ovens and he offered my boolits to be sprayed and piggyback on a bake!

I would like to do at least 500 in a batch to make it worth, and easiest way to my knowledge would be to place the boolits on a tray or something? Any other suggestions?

Now, if I just put the boolits on a nonstick material (foil or other) the base of the boolits wonīt be coated, as in a bake and shake method.

Is it a problem with uncoated bases?
I dont do GC on any of my boolits.. pistol calibers only.
I plan to coat them as cast (.358) and size them after coating (.358)

    Thanks

Is there a problem with uncoated bases when you lube boolits the traditional way? If you aren't melting the bases with grease in the rings, then you aren't going to melt the bases with powercoat on the sides. Load em up and fire away!

I would try to use a stepped hole in some plate so that they would not fall over when sprayed and put in the oven.

The base of the boolit does see a high amount of pressure and intense heat, but only for an incredibly short amount of time. I don't think this would ever be an issue in pistols. Unless your using very slow powders and long barrels, as in higher velocity rifle loads, your not going to damage the base of your boolits. No, in my opinion you don't have to worry about the base not being coated. I would take this guy up on his offer immediately and get some boolits into his oven. Congrats

Heck I can get 500 on a tray into the tabletop convection oven. Coating and baking isn't the hard part, its the carefully stacking them all upright that's the bugger.

I have ZERO luck with the various foil options when compared to 1/4 inch hardware cloth - Think a screen with larger openings....I find works much better.

I put a large number in my lyman 1200, add a bit of PC, add packing peanuts (styrofoam) let it run a couple of minutes, then pick out the peanuts, dump in a basket made from hardware cloth and back. Once baked I drop them in a sink full of water, then drop the basket on the floor, breaks them all apart. I've done hundreds at a time like this, no worries.
