just as cheap to buy a ar22 smith and Wesson and they run reliably and you don't have to tie up a lower.

With the floating chamber and .224" bore verse the .222" accuracy is not equal. Doesn't hurt your 556 upper but they just are not as accurate or reliable as the dedicated 22 AR uppers.

I have two dedicated 22lr. uppers, a Spikes Tactical set up as a M-4 and a Tactical Advantage set up as a A2, both have a Lothar Walter barrels and shoot great.

The conversions aren't quite as accurate as a dedicated simply because of bore size. The dedicated 22 uppers are made with barrels with the proper bore for 22lr whereas the kits use a chamber insert and you are shooting 22lr through a bore sized for the 5.56 round. I have a dedicated upper and am quite happy with its accuracy. minute of coke can at about 40 yards with a cheapo red dot.

You can buy the whole upper and just change over or just buy another lower at a later date.

    Great minds think alike...

About a month ago, I bought a very slightly used Bushmaster Carbon-15 from a friend. He had heard rumors that shooting much .223 would cause them to blow up. $350 cash. I had a Ciener 22lr conversion that I stuck on one of mine when wifey wanted to go shoot. Two trips to the range since then, and she has (not so)casually mentioned that it would be a great Valentine's Day present.

I can see the light from here...
