Just did order with Western Bullet Co.

First time ordering from Western Bullet Co. Saw a couple offerings I'd like to try.

    http://www.westernbullet.com/castbullets.html

    Ideal
    #323378
    250 gr.
    $20.00 (100)
    Lyman #429348
    180 gr.
    $10.50 (100)
    Lee 45-230-TC $11.00 (100)
    Subtotal: $41.50
    Shipping: $12.00
    Total: $53.50

My Czech Persian 98/29 8x57 loves heavy bullets so I figured what the heck. I have a new NOE 324471 but as yet I've not gotten it hot enough to break in and start casting good boolits. Lyman 323471 .324" out of the Persian will shoot 5 into 1 hole @ 50 yds. I hope the NOE will do as good.

The Lyman .44 is a wadcutter for my new Ruger Flattop .44 Special. I'm still in the newlywed stage with this revolver so I want to try different boolits. Figured maybe a light target load with 700X.

The Lee 230 gr .45 Truncated Cone is one I've wondered about in .45 acp and .45 AutoRim (S&W Brazilian M1937). The Smith is very fond of HG68 so it'll be interesting to see how this Lee boolit does. I doubt I'd buy this mold as I have a 6 cav. Lee GB for the original HG68 flat base. I can't really see this TC out-shooting HG68 in the S&W.... or in the Colt Gov't either. Guess I just wanted to try it on general principle.

Western seems to have some interesting and varied offering and the prices aren't bad, IMO. We'll see how it all shakes out.

I do not wish to rain on the parade, but I'll throw this out FWIW.

Approx 2 years ago, I ordered 500ea of his #358627's. I loaded and shot about 50 of them, and decided I didn't like his lube. I lined a cookie sheet with a double layer of paper towel, spread about 200 slugs on it, and threw it the oven at 150` for maybe 45 mins. The lube melted off nicely.

As I cleaned up the mess, one slug at a time, I was appalled at the number of bullets with wrinkled bands, and actual voids in the bullet bodies I discovered. So I put the remainder of the bullets thru the same process, with the same result.

Using a calibrated electronic scale, I then weighed them all. Bullet and check, no lube. As I weighed, I gave each a good visual check as well. I rejected around 30 or so just on the visual check, and at least another 30-40 due to weight variance. There were a number of slugs that were 4.3grns light, indicating major air voids.

I'm not looking to slam anybody, I just want to put this out there, as a caveat emptor.

I have shot their NOE 326477 PB over 7.5 grains of Bulleye in my Persian 98/29 with very good results.

I've know Jon for 20 years, used to see him at gun shows in Montana; that was before he had the shop he has now. I've had nothing but excellent product and service from him. But then I always do the walk in routine and go FTF and pay cash. Probably will stop in and visit him later this winter or early spring. I don't get over west of the divide but about twice a year.

    Dutch,
Do the 323378 bullets come with or w/o GC's?

I have this mold but, it casts at only .324 (Lyman manual also says that what it should cast) with Lyman #2 alloy and .323 with 20/1 so, it maybe a little small for a lot of 8x57's especialy if WW's are used (they cast within .0002 of 20/1).

I just got this mold about 2 weeks ago at the Medford gun show so, I haven't shot it yet.

One problem I have had with Western Bullet co. is on some of there larger sized bullets .338 and up they list a price per 100 and if you order them you get a box of 50. I called several times to try and talk to someone about this and eventually got to talk to the owner. He said " there's no way I can get 100 of those in a box " I said then why don't you update your website to show the price is for 50 ? He kinda grumbled about that and that was a couple of years ago and it still haven't changed. A lot of times the website leads you to beleive that your choice is in stock when it isn't and sometimes you wait a month or more for them to make more so they don't keep the website updated well.

I'll stick with my cast bullets. Know the hardness, and what type of lube is used.

Jon used to have his renter cast for him occasionally. As a walk in I used to get great service from him.
