Thread: .40 hollowpoint H&G 68 version (Mihec)

    .40 hollowpoint H&G 68 version (Mihec)

The H&G #68 200gn SWC shoots great in the .45 ACP. It is a legendary bullet in terms of accuracy in the original 200 gn shape, but the 185gn HP version from Mihec is even better in my eyes.

The Lee 105 gn SWC is the .38/9mm version of the #68 (but probably to small to HP). That too is a solid choice when accuracy is the game (or the game requires accuracy).

I would very much like a .40 version.

    Any interest?
    Any honcho interested? (Oreo perhaps?)

I'm thinking the weight would probably be around 140-145gn in solid and 135-140gn in HP, but someone could perhaps draw it?
I only do powdercoating nowadays, but would settle for a traditional lube groove if that would be in majority.

This is the Lee 145gn SWC, something to compare to perhaps?

Shoot from a rest at 25/50/100 yards, then post your groupings. That is the only way to compare accuracy results.

I'd be in for a brass version 4 cavity solid!

That Lee version shoots VERY well. The only downside is that it is only available in a 2 cavity mould.

My sentiments exactly. A 4-cav with hollowpoint would make the Lee design flawless.

I'd be in for a 4 or 5 cav solid. Love the Lee 145, just too much work with a 2 cav.

I too may be interested as a PB and HP but would prefer the HP version to weigh about 145. I would be in for a HP 4cav as well as a non-hp version. (I hate changing pins)

    4 or 5 c brass or aluminum

Is it going to be bevel based? My preference would be square base.

I would be interested in a 2c iron mold for the master caster

If it's missing a lube groove and is NOT bevel edged then I'm down for an brass 4 cav HP. It would be even better if the Lee cam sprue plate could be worked into it even if it's only a four cavity mold. I would still buy one with the lube groove but would love it more without.

The purpose of this thread is a 4 cavity hollowpoint brass mold with plain base only. I apologize if this was not clear from the start.

I am not sure if there can be both grooveless and with lube groove in the same buy, I guess we'll see that later.
For my own part I don't mind the lube groove even though I powder coat. The purpose of the hollowpoint for me is to lighten the bullet while keeping the bullet profile, the grooves do the same thing.

Edited myself about. If this happens I'm probably down for one either way.

OP, are you set on that weight?

I have a 2 cavity 180gr and would love a 4 cavity in that weight. Less recoil on the heavy 40's, good for matches.

For a heavy weight you would be far better of with a TC or RN for reliable feeding and going 180-200gn. Both the SWC profile and HP are ideal for light bullets since you move the center of the weight to the base, keeping the bullet stable in low velocity.

A 180-200gn Keith style SWC in .40 is not a bad idea, but not the main purpose of this thread.

A short while back there was a custom order for a Lee 6 cavity 145. I'd even go for that.
