White Label Lube BAC + Carnuba Red mix???

A while back, I did some lube tinkering. I liked the performance of White's BAC (especially in the slower handgun loadings) but I wanted to make it a bit less tacky. So, I mixed a batch 50/50 with the C-Red to see what would happen. They seem to mix well in a small double boiler arrangement that I use for melting lube. I have had good accuracy and bore lubing with this mix in my mid-velocity handgun loads. I lube my boolits using a Lyman 450 heated to 85F (really not necessary but it does make it flow better) and it works well. And, the resulting mix is a lot less sticky that BAC. But, I'm left with a few questions ...

I know BAC is a mix of 50-50 and C-red. C-Red obviously contains carnuba wax (in a low percentage) and other things. Does anyone have any idea what's the composition of the 50/50 mix of C-Red and BAC that I am using? Is there a lube out there that is comparable? Does anyone else have experience with this mix? Am I just fooling myself?

Thanks in advance for your information, perspectives and advice.

Same mix that I use on some of my boolits. Been using a different mix on the High velocity stuff, but thinking of trying this and see what happens.

"I wanted to make it a bit less tacky"

I was thinking about doing the same thing. My first order was for BAC and I am concerned about hot weather performance. It pan lubes well and according to White Label the Carnauba Red does not. I am also going to try Randy's TacX.

I've been using a 3part BAC to 1 part CRed for some time. It works great.

I use straight BAC in the winter months in both rifle and pistol, and mix in a little CR in the summertime. BAC is soft, but not as soft as 50/50. It's a very good lube.

I've mixed the two before, usually 2 BAC/1 Carnauba Red, it works great. I know several others who've done this as well for a long time, particularly with 9mm and .40 handguns.

I did the mix/blend thing with BAC and C. Red probably 6 years back. I tried 3 BAC with 1 C. Red and 2 BAC with 1 C. Red. I settled on the 2/1 mix. I now use it in all my sizers for all my cast from .357 up thru .45 cal., all rifle cals. are included. Has worked in rifles with velocities up in the 2K+ ranges.Robert

I've mixed BAC & CR equal parts but after this will probably try the 2 BAC 1 CR mix, I've used both on their own, this winter have used mostly BAC with just a little CR so maybe about 10 to 1. I've wanted to try the 2500+ alone for my 45-70 trapdoor velocity loads,.

How do you guys store pistol bullets with the 2-1 mix?
Rifle and 357 I lube with red carn go into old plastic pistol trays. Otherwise I like to store my 38, 45, 9mm, and 40 in quart size jars. I was going to order some more from Lars but may add some BAC as well. I have a lot of red carn in hollow sticks I could blend.
Is it cost effective to buy the 1 pound blocks if you are blending and pouring in the luber?

I buy it in the solid blocks, cut it into pieces & melt in a small saucepan then pour into lube/sizer using a funnel, works great as long as you don't overfill it, don't ask me how I know this..

Sorry, missed the "cost effective" part. I can't answer that, I bought a large supply of the CR, BAC, & 2500+ in one order and never bought the sticks, but I remember that I thought it was probably cheaper & had plans on mixing them as needed.

Mixing these two together seems like you're almost creating 2500+. It falls in between CR and BAC for hardness. I've thought about mixing 2500+ and CR together to see how it stores. 2500+ is not conducive to unorganized bulk storage in warm environments. I haven't found a reason to use anything other than 2500+ other than storage issues.

Good point, I think that the CR is nice because it seems like the Carnuba in it allows you to make a mixture that is hard enough for storage while adjusting for velocity/temp. I've never used CR straight in winter but figured a softer lube might work better in colder weather although I could be wrong about that. I know it does make a difference of the flow in my lube/sizer.

So, what does Lars have to say about all this?

h8dirt, I have been mixing BAC two parts to one part CR for just the reason you stated, it will skim over on the surface and not be sticky. I have had no problems whatsoever doing this for the last three years. Just be careful when you melt it because if you get it too hot it will ruin the beeswax component of the lube effectively making it unusable. I would use plain CR but I like the idea of a softer lube on regular pistol boolits and short barrels.

I drop the sized and lubed pistol bullets into quart sized tupperware containers with the snap top. For the rifle bullets I stand them up in smaller tupperware containers till it is full then snap a lid on. I bought a goodly supply of the solid sticks for a little better amount/quality control when I melt/blend the mix.Robert

I've mentioned this before, but it's worth repeating.

I occasionally mix BAC and Carnuba red, at a 50/50 ratio. (might try 2 to 1 now)

End up with a middle of the road lube that's only mildly sticky, and is medium hard in cooler temps. Best of both worlds for me.

I use it for higher velocity loads, typically in carbine or rifle when I don't feel comfortable with just a tumble lube application of Alox or 45-45-10.
