    M2 ball 30-06

I just got a 1903-A3 Springfield and am looking for some load data. I don't see any on hodgdons website for the components I have. I have 150 grain hornady fmjbt bullets WLR primers imr 4054 and mixed brass. I want to load to m2 ball spec. I know I don't need to because its a Springfield but I'm getting a garand next and want a load that works in both. I would like to know powder charge (47.0g ok?) and seating depth. Looking for an accurate load and doesn't have to be super hot. Any load data is appreciated. Thanks

I'm assuming you mean IMR 4064? 47 gr is in the approximate ballpark. I would load as light as you can get reliable function (when you get the Garand that is.) No sense beating these old guns.

4064 I'll assume. http://masterpostemple.bravepages.com/M1load.htm 47gr of 4064 should be good to start. Be careful with mixed variety brass, internal capacity differences can effect pressure. I've seen differences of as much as 30gr in some old Krag brass I have. Good load in a light case might be over pressure in a heavy case. Here's some copied from Hornady, lacks 4064 for your 150 though. http://www.bearblain.com/Service%20R...0Loadings.html

to duplicate M2 ball ammo use 47.5 grains of 4895 and a 150 grain spire pointed bullet loaded to an OAL if 3.34 inches. This is loaded in USGI cases.

I don't know about 4064 or commercial cases.

Do some online research on loading for the Garand. It is a special needs child and you don't want a slam fire. Care must be taken with case length as they tend to stretch in the garand and full length sizing is necessary.
Disclaimer: The above is not holy writ. It is just my opinion based on my experience and knowledge. Your mileage may vary.

Favorite load for me is 47.5 4895 behind 150 gr m2 ball OAL 3.34 have fired thousands of this load and it is usually more accurate than I am .I have also tried 4064 3031 ballC and a lot of surplus 852 . the 4895 was always my best performer though . Heck all of that stuff used to be cheap surplus stuff .Not any more ! only thing cheap now is me .

4064 will generally take about one to two grains more powder per load than 4895 to equal your velocity goal, as with any change in componet or weapon, work up to your goal. 4064 is a great substitute for 4859 as well as 4320. As an aside, 4064 has the longest kernels of the three and is the most inconsistent through a measure.

Here's a good place to look for duplicates. And lots more.

Mentioned briefly above, but ALWAYS full-length size with the Garand. No exceptions. You don't want to risk one going off as a result of an out of battery slamfire.

just email hornady they will send you a copy of the load data page they have for M1 data, as does Accurate powder Co.

M2 Ball was loaded with IMR4895, non-cannister version, so each batch was
slightly different. Adjust your IMR4895 to meet milspec velocity in your gun.

IMR4064 is good stuff, and I use it for most of my .30-06 and .308 match grade loads.
