Shoot'em If You Got'em...
Yup,, I have 5 of them, best 357 mag performance you can get in a handgun of that configuration and size. You'd have to get a T/C or a carbine to better the level I have achieved. the only drawback is the brass doesnt fall out in your hand 6 at a time... the 38 loads need to be tuned with the spring, it definitely likes the plus P loadings. the 4" Cadet likes the 38's better than the full size gun.
I built up a conversion in 10mm Magnum and it is a real fire breather, just have to get the magazines perfected, the new style dont adapt to the fatter cartridge, but its a simple barrel and spring switch to get 41 mag levels of power.
I have had a model B (original manufacture) since the 90's. Great gun, fun to shoot and I can shoot lead out of it without an issue.

There was one at the LGS a few weeks back for $650 and I almost bought it.
However, after handling it, and then a 1911, the grip frame is HUGE on the Coonan. Not entirely unmanageable, but much larger than a regular 1911.
Then again, I'm waiting to get my hands on a Desert Eagle in .44 magnum with a .357 conversion. Something fun about semi autos in a straight wall pistol caliber.
"New".........that's amusing. The Coonan has been around for many, many years.
I had a model B in the 90's with a 38 conversion. I loved that thing. I was working at an indoor shooting range at the time and had modified it quite a bit cosmetically. Checkered front strap, low mount Bo-mars, the frame was cut back at the front so it looked like a 1911, custom grips... Well one of our customers saw it and offered me more than I could say no to and that was that. Great firearm very reliable. I looked at the new ones but I have not yet justified the current price of admission.

I have a new Compact. Went back home for a sight change. And they dont shoot 38's.
I believe that many shooters don't understand the coonan.
Wanting to treat it like a revolver when it is an auto loader.
Find a load that works, usually factory level, and shoot - reduced loads will need "tuning" like a 1911.
The gun is a beast and can take loads that will stick in most revolvers.
Ps you will need a fair number of breakin rounds [ 200 to 500] before it will wear in but after that --- WHA WHO!!!
