3rd ANNUAL SWAGED BULLET POSTAL SHOOT! EVERYONE WELCOME!

OK guys! It is that time again, shall we prepare for the 3rd annual swaged bullet postal shoot? This year a couple changes to make it even better, easier and funer for all!

(Mods... if we can please keep this thread here in the swaging forum that would be best, I'll post a heads up in the "our town" forum, Thanks)

    Here you/we go.....

Pistols and Rifles! Any caliber! Commercial jackets too! The primary rule NO COMMERCIAL BULLETS (I consider any bullet available for purchase to be a commercial bullet). All bullets for this up coming years shoot (2015) must be home made. Pretty simple right? I'll break it down a little more for the categories in a following post along with all the details...

Next.... this is a shoot for fun, call it bragging rights I guess as there will be no prizes for how well you shoot or how high you place. Any and all donated prizes will be offered up for a drawing at the end of the match and everyone that enters a target will be eligible for the drawing.

Anyone can participate but you will need to make or obtain the swaged bullets necessary to participate. Those that wish to donate bullets are not allowed to profit from supplying others with the necessary bullets to shoot, usually 50 bullets is more then enough. Those shooters that accept bullets but do not participate in the shoot will be required to return those bullets.

I'll pick two targets available to down load on line, one for pistols and one for rifles. Shooters that wish to participate will be scoring their own targets and will be required to post a picture on this thread of their entry to be eligible for any prizes or bragging rights. If unable to post picture you can send your entry to me and I'll be happy to score it and post pics for you. This is a great opportunity for us swagers to show other fellow swagers as well as those not yet enjoying our hobby, just what is possible with home made bullets, the pics and any data you share will be very helpful to everyone so please feel free to share as much info as possible regarding caliber, loads, powder, bullet weights, jacket type and die manufacture and please feel free to post pics of your progress even if it isn't the "official" targets, who doesn't enjoy seeing bullet holes in paper! Of course we should all acknowledge by now that any load data posted online now days is to be only considered safe in that individuals rifle and all reloading precautions should be observed regarding any and all posted load data.

In years past the weather for many was a challenge to say the least and I figured to start the postal shoot later this time but got to thinking why not just run it longer??? My original thought was to start March 1st and run it a month or so but I'm ready to do and see some shooting now..... so..... how about....

Start date January 1st 2015 and final day for entries April 1st

No this is not an April fools joke but should be an easy date to remember.

That is three solid months, surly there has got to be at least a couple days in that time frame for our entire continent that will be calm enough for a good group. For that matter I know there is some international swagers out there too! Feel free to participate but international shipping of prizes will not be in the cards, you guys will have to play for bragging rights only. The timing for this postal shoot has always been at a time of year that most of us would be inside by the fireplace, so this is also a good excuse for those of us to get out and do some shooting when most likely we wouldn't.

Getting late here this evening. I'll continue to update this post as needed and any dates posted are certainly subject to change but for the moment I see no reason why these dates shouldn't work.

Please feel free to express your desire to participate with an "I'm in" post and feel free to ask any questions you may have. So far we have been pretty successful in the past two postal shoots, I look forward to this years even more!

I'll cover more details in next post.

Here is a quick break down of what I got in mind.

Two categories of firearms, PISTOL and RIFLE with two subcategories for each regarding what is used for the bullet jacket. One subcategory is for bullets swaged from COMMERCIAL (available for purchase) jackets and the other we will call the RECYCLED category for all other forms of jackets pertaining to scrap brass or copper tubing. At this time no cast boolits, gas checked or the new swaged lead bullets with painted on or plated jackets.

    FIREARMS

Pistol..... Any caliber but NO SCOPES OR ELCTRONIC SIGHTS, OPEN SITES ONLY and NO MECANICAL RESTS, any other form of rest is fine but can not clamp to gun.

Rifle.... Any caliber and nearly anything goes! Semi auto, scope, open sites, benchrest, custom, factory, bi-pod, fancy rest, etc. No Unlimited class of bechrest type guns that are the 100lb + rail guns though.

    DISTANCE

Pistols - 50 feet (sound good?) I'm not certain on distance here but I figure to have two targets on a single piece of 8.5"x11" paper and open sites! Let me know if you guys have a different opinion on this distance.

    Rifles - 100 yrds

    SCORING

Pistols - Two groups of 5 shoots each (total of ten shots scored) both on the same piece of paper from target I will specify. I'll have a target for you guys to down load that has two targets on a single sheet of paper.

Rifles - One group of 5 shots and five separate targets with one shot each for score, again total of 10 shots scored. I figure there will be some pretty small groups, it is quite possible a shooter could put all five into one ragged hole, this is where the five additional targets with one shot each will show the shooters skill and also validate the capabilities of the possibility of putting all five shots threw the same hole.

Group size - shooter measures his own target for group size. Typically take the measurement from the out side to the outside of the two farthest bullet holes and subtract the diameter of your bullet from the measurement.

Score (rifle only) - pretty simple. Center ring is worth 10 points (there is no x ring for this match) each subsequent ring is one less point, 9, 8, etc. If a bullet hole cuts the line of the next highest ring the higher score will apply.

    TARGETS!

Free targets for download can be found at following link about half way down the page....

    http://www.6mmbr.com/targets.html

    PISTOL CAL TARGET - 50'

RIFLE CAL TARGET - 100 YRDS

Targets are to be printed on single sheet of any piece of 8.5"x11" standard sized paper, you will have 2 targets on one piece of paper for the pistol class and 6 targets on one piece of paper for the rifle class. Feel free to print and shoot as many targets as you like till you are happy with your entry. Only one entry per class (one target/piece of paper for pistol and one target/piece of paper for rifle per shooter) will be accepted. Be sure to set your printer to print 1 to 1 on the scale so you are not actually printing a smaller sized target, won't really matter for group size but score for rifle it will.

What do you think guys? The rifle cal target should be good to go. One 5 shot group shot measured for group size on any of the 6 targets, the remaining 5 targets will have one shot each to determine total score with 50 being top score.

The pistol cal target should be good to go too I would think. I haven't shot my pistols for groups on paper in quite a while, I would think everyone should be able to see the pistol target at 50' clearly enough with open sites to establish two groups. If need be you guys can color or highlight your targets to aid in the visual aspect but NO STICKERS.

Free targets for download can be found at following link about half way down the page....

    PRIZES!

I'll start off the prize list. Everyone that participates will be eligible for the prize drawing. Shooters will be assigned a number then a random number will be drawn, one number for each prize available. The shooter for each number drawn will get to choose their prize starting with the first number drawn and then proceeding down the list.

I'll be contacting the Cast Boolits vendors for any prize donations that they might wish to donate, I'll also graciously accept any donated prizes from fellow members and participants here. Doesn't have to be anything elaborate or expensive, typically shooting related supplies and the like work well.

First off up for grabs in the prize drawing

#1. BTSniper improved CH40 cal one step die or $225 "BTSniper store credit" donated by myself.

#2. Large flat rate box full of 22lr brass donated by myself

#3. Small flat rate box of 223 rem brass ready to load donated by myself

Start practicing, got about 2 weeks till the first!

    Good shooting and swage on!

Jon, I figured you would be in for this one! I still remember some pretty impressive groups you shot with your 44. I doubt I'll be very competitive with the pistols since I sold my 44AMP but I'll have fun shooting with the little 40s. I imagine you have plenty of bullets, I bet you got some already loaded and ready to go

    Brian,
Back when I was in a pistol league, I could shoot nice groups at 50' offhand compared to most folks there. But some of the castboolit fellers talk about shootin their revolvin' boolit shooters in near single ragged hole groups at 100 yards I cain't shoot that good I'll halfta be practicin' my sandbag'n tek-neeks foo sur !

This is a simple postal shoot. The shooter that wishes to participate simply prints as many of his own targets as he likes, shoots as many as he wishes on his home range and then submits one entry for either pistol or rifle or one for each here in this thread and that is it! Easy, fun and simple. Each participant simply takes a picture of their target and posts it here in the thread, that completes their match and qualifies them for the prize drawing.

The main rule is only home made bullets (projectiles! not just simply reloaded ammo, the actual bullet is to be home made, not commercial) are allowed. If a shooter that wishes to participate is in need of some of these awesome home made bullets simply let us know and we will see what can be done.

So the answer to your question is ..... it is everywhere and it is no where!

    Brian

I'd love to participate if I could trade for, buy, or obtain some projectiles (I do not swage myself). As for rifle I could use either use my AR (.223/5.56), .30 cal, or even go a bit older with a .314 in a Mosin (just for fun), depending on what projectiles I could get. As for pistol it would have to be 9mm. Please PM me if any of you swagers are open to working something out for some of your projectiles.

I'm just an average shooter, but love what you guys do with these swaged bullets so either way I will follow this thread to see what you guys can do. Good luck everyone!

    Thanks.
    Dave
