you want to give it to ME!!!
thats a heck of a gun!!!
very nice and congrats!!!
I want one of these, seems to be the perfect small game rifle.
Looks in really nice shape. I just finished restoring the exact same rifle. When I got it, it was pretty well beat up on the outside, but had a perfect bore. Right now I'm in the process of finding a load for Lyman 257283 and 257420.
Those were available in 22 hornet, 25-20 and i believe 32-20 I have one in 22 hornet a great rifle sshoots very good light and easy to handle. Mine was fitted with a factory reciever sight with appeture also.
I have one and they are great small game shooters...
mine shoots 65 gr cast and 85 grain J to the same point of aim at 50 yds !

Haven't shot it on paper yet but I did shoot a couple sticks and rocks yesterday just to check function. Everything seems to be in good order, the bore looks great. The chamber appears to be a little tighter than my brother's 92. The ammo I have loaded is for his gun and they work well out of it. With this new Sporter I have to just bump the bolt to get it to close on a round so next batch I will adjust the size die for this chamber. I am shooting rcbs 25-85-cm boolit as that is what I have. May have to keep my eyes open for another mold just to add some variety, and I think something a shade lighter would be handy too. JW
Don't know if mine is an exception or all are like it, but my bore slugs .258 exactly. Might want to slug yours before working up a load.
Very nice, I hope it shoots as good as it looks.

Idaho Mule,I am shooting rcbs 25-85-cm boolit as that is what I have.
I have tried using this same mold with very poor results....I don't think the 1:16 twist in the savage stabalizes this boolit. If you can get it to shoot accurately I would really like to know

That is some good info atr, thank you. I was wanting a slightly lighter boolit (65 or so) to compare with. Right now I am busy with farming and not much time to shoot, but I will keep you posted when I get more shooting time. I am looking forward to playing with this rifle as I am sure it will shoot well. My dad has a Savage 23 in all the calibers it was offered in, 23d 22 Hornet, 23c 25-20, 23b 32-20, 23a 22lr, 23aa 22lr.
I used the 25-20 and 32-20 for rabbits and squirrels they work really well.
He also has all the Savage 19's.

Just got 'a love those old Model 23 rifles. My Savage 23b is the most accurate 25/20 that I've ever shot.
I'm currently rebuilding one in 32/20.

I'm looking at a C model in 32-20 to go along with a S&W I have. Twenty years ago I had several of these rifles. They were $150 at gun shows and nobody wanted them. I should have kept them and many others.
Now you guys are making me jealous. Now I gotta keep my eyes open for more and similar. Doug, I would love to see that collection. Scharf, awesome looking rifle!!! that is just beautiful. timspawn, just buy it. I got lots of 32-20s and they're all good. JW
Here's the 23's,

Here's the 23 B that I brought back from the near dead. Made a couple parts, plugged some holes in the wood and metal, modified some scope bases to fit and mounted a Lyman Alaskan, re-finished and checkered the stock and blued the metal. Now to go kill some groundhogs with it. Still can't figure out how the gun was so beat up yet had a perfect bore.
Same with the Model 23 in 32/20 that I'm restoring. Perfect bore.Still can't figure out how the gun was so beat up yet had a perfect bore.
