I am finishing one from an 1866 barreled action I found.

Thanks for the tip on the pistol grip, been looking for one in all the wrong places.

    What you're doing looks good.

Going to use an oil finish?

Will probable strip every thing to the white and
    go from there.

The stock will get 5 or 6 coats of BLO and a good
    coat of my stock wax.

Some of the new parts are blued so I may just
    blue it all.

Hope I can make a good shooter out of it.

That looks like it should make a nice rifle. If you can, the breech block and tang should be color case hardened. The trigger guard, band retaining springs, and stock end cap were fire or carbon heat blued. A Springfield in good color with the dark blue barrel, blackened lock plate and hammer, fire blued trigger guard and appointments, and oil finished stock was (is) a strikingly handsome piece.

    Thanks for the info.
Would like to find a way to color case.

    You are very right

Thanks for the update. Nice to see the old girl up and running. I hope she does well for you on the range.

Let us know how she does.

    Got out to the range.

    Boy I needed that!

Last shot with the trap door - 200 yard gong (10"x12" Steel Plate) - standing no rest.
    It sounded so good.

..............The TD carbines sure don't weigh much, do they? I have an H&R Little Big Horn commemorative and it's superlatively accurate. As in scary accurate Some years back when the weekly Burrito Match numbered 6-7 guys I got all carried away and said I was going to shoot the carbine until I won with it, sheesh!

At the time we were shooting 5 at 50 and 5 at 100 yards for score. The front blade was only the slightest hint over the top of the breechblock hinge. Add in the fact that the short little thing was so light and 'wavy' with no weight out there, it was a cast iron puppymother to hold at 6 o'clock on the bull. After awile I figured I'd probably die still trying to win with it! I became rather sick of it and it was a huge joke amongst the other guys (who I also grew to intensely dislike), ha!

You need to inlet the stock for the block pin stem and rotate the stem so it is vertical. There is a small pin or stud on the end of the stem that fits a hole in the receiver.
