Apperance of Federal 215 Magnum Primers

Some of the manuals recommend magnum primers for the use of H322 in 30-30's. I had some Federal 215's I have had for years and never looked at. When I went to load them tonight, I noticed that the purple compound completely filled the cup:The anvil is NOT visible. Is this what they should look like?

    Yes this is normal.
You should be able to see the three holes in the anvil through the purple compound, but I wouldn't sweat it if you can't unless they don't shoot. Those were always really great primers. Never heard of putting them in a 30-30 though.

Please move this out of FAQ and put it in the CB section.

Thanks for the reply. I should have said H335. But with all I have read about tubular magazines, Magnum primers might be a good idea with full throttle loads with anything but a really flat, medium hard boolit.

Normal ! at least Federal color coeds there primers , so you can tell what you have if they would happen to get mixed up somehow.
