    IMR4227 and the 454 Casull?

Anyone using IMR 4227 in the Casull? Planning on loading 300,325 or 350gr bullets. Just curious as the LGS has a pound.

I have used IMR4227 in my 454 Cassull but only with the 250gr. boolit my groups was much larger than W296 or H110 so that is where it ended

Even though i have a can of H-4227 on the shelf , i have never used it for loading the 454 Casull . as it offers no advantage over the usual slow burning powders.

The powders i do use are Tightgroup for cast loads in the 1,000 to 1,100 fps , HS6 for 1,300 fps and WCC 820 or 296/H110 from 1,450 fps to max. with cast or jacketed bullets from 240 to 300gr.

I had very good accuracy with 4227 and 325gr cast. 25.4gr was good for 1250 out of a 7.5" SRH.

I just saw this on the shelf at the LGS and wondered if maybe I was overlooking a good powder. Bob, I've been on the hunt for some titegroup since you PM'ed me, but right now it is unobtanium in my neck of the woods. I've got 296 on the shelf as well as lil gun and will be using those till I find some titegroup.

Bullseye will also work well ! at about the same charge weight . i used BE for many decades before switching to TG powder! luckely i stocked up on powder and primers before 2010
I also had excellent results with Lilgun in the 454 as well as 22 hornet and 357 mag , But i have disconued its use in my FA 454 Casull's because of possible accelerated barrel erosion as it burns HOT at the chamber pressure the Casull operates at with full loads . FA has the info on it .

Really the sleeper powder is WCC 820 ! works excellent in every senairo i used it in 38 super, 22 hornet ,32/20 , 357 mag, 44 mag & 454 Casull
been using it for about 20 + years. i bough my stash of 820 years ago @ $7.00 a pound .
