Ok, Ben & others. Any 'speed limit' for the original BLL (like 308W) ? Got a 24" upper that is begging to try, PC goes 2700.

35 Shooter has triple coated 35 cal. cast bullets in his 35 Whelen and has hit 2,600 fps with accuracy and zero leading with BLL.

Thanks Ben, got some 165gr checked & coated 3x BLL. I'll try several 'steps' with H4895, see how it goes.

Of course, the bullet has to fit.
If the bullet is small, it won't work with anyone's lube.

Fits fine, shoots great. If BLL works I'll forgo the PC for GC rifle, BLL is so easy.

Provided that, you should be good to go. I still had a good lube star well past 2600 fps. I think i stopped at 2650 as the groups were opening again with the straight ww alloy ht. 14 twist rifling in a 35 whelen.

I'm shooting 2450 fps with the xcb boolit in my 12 twist .308 win. with stupid accuracy @ 100 yds.
I'm never surprised with ragged hole cloverleafs with that load and it stays in 1.5" & better @ 100 yds. with un weighed boolits. Weighed boolits just shoot stupid accurate in that rifle(thus the cloverleafs)....shoots better than i can for sure.

Nothing but BLL on the boolits, but Ben's Red will do the same thing. I can use either, or, with the same poi and accuracy.....gotta love that!!

Yeah, tumble lube is easy for sure, and i'm hooked on it, but i still love good old Ben's Red just as much lol.

It does this PCd. If it does MOA @ 100 I'll be happy. Alloy is Cu enriched.

Looks like you've got the pc method doing very well for you Popper. That's one of the better 200 yd. groups i've seen using pc.

I suspect dipping might put too much of a coat on them.

I like to do 2 (pistol) or 3 (rifle) light coats. By the 3rd coat I can just see a color in the lube grooves. Just a hint.

But there is nothing stopping you from trying 25 dipped, and 25 tumbled with 2-3 light coats.
See which does better.

Has anyone tried Isoheet for the thinner? Evaporates quickly and can be found in a small bottle.

I tried some alcohol, but I grabbed the wrong one, got 50/50.

Half mixed with the alox, half sat on the bottom and acted like water. So I added a shot of mineral spirits, and since I had nothing to lose a chunk of JPW. Shook the **** out of it, let it settle, and froze it. Poured the alox/mix off back into alox bottles and it works fine. Dumped the water.
I think most of the JPW ended up as a scum on the sides of my mixing jar. Cleaned it up with a nice warm batch of 124 gr .358 bullets headed for 9mm cases. Scrapped it off the jar well, filled the grooves. Gave it one light coat over the top of good BLL just to lock it into place. Have seen no problems with it.

Probably won't try that exact combo again, but it works.

I suspect ISOheat would work fine.

I think the One step worked so well because of those proprietary polymers. But I could be full of brown smelly stuff too.

Has anyone tried using liquid automotive wax? Thinking these automotive liquid waxes might be water based, I checked the MSDS sheet for Turtle brand Liquid Carnuba wax. The MSDS sheet lists petroleum solvents. Automotive liquid wax is easy to find and plentiful in supply. I just spent half a day looking for Johnsons floor wax in my area, none to be found so I'm a bit frustrated with this right now, wish I'd read the last dozen posts of this thread before heading out the door. - JJ

The Johnson's wax has been discontinued for a long time. The automotive waxes are going to be very different. Someone just tried straight NuFinish and it was a failure.

As someone else already stated, NuFinish doesn't contain any wax. It seems to me that the original formula of BLL, the wax was sealing the alox on the boolit. Regardless of what type of wax solution is used, that seems to be the purpose of the wax. I'll give the Turtle Liquid Carnuba wax a try. I've nothing to lose really if it fails, something to gain if it works. - JJ

Shot the 308W with BLL today. 5 shots 2x3 with 35gr 4895, 2 on paper with 39gr. AC. PC did it's normal thing 40.5gr but H.T.d. IMHO BLL shoud do OK H.T.'d. No leading.

At the speeds i mentioned above i'm just using straight ww(yeah i shoot on the cheap when i can get by with it lol), but i do HT them @465* for 1 hr. , then dunked in tap water. BHN hits 27 to 28 on the hardness.

I wasn't getting leading before HT, but i just get better accuracy with the HT.

That was Isocore w/Cu AC. Got a big batch in the oven now for the 30/30, already treated the ones for 308W. Wasn't the BLL but alloy that failed. It's 1:10. Carbine load runs 2400, 35gr load should be something like 2K fps.

Loaded for the 308, HTd. 39gr 335, runs about the same as 4895. Found my modified RD style 182 gr fits in the AR10 too. Loaded some of them too. 30/30, BO as well, what not to like.
