    Wolf primers

Last week I was searching the web for primers, seems availability is not a problem now at least.
I prefer CCI but could not argue with the price of Wolf. $20 per thousand. I bought 5000. They arrived today. Any reports of their quality? good or bad?

I'm wondering the same thing myself. I have never used a Wolf primer and I have never heard anyone complain about them. Also, they are certainly less expensive...

No problems with mine. Large pistol are a bit snug in primer pockets but small pistol are not an issue.
They all go bang. I bought 20K and will buy more in the future.

I have used many large rifle and large pistol from Wolf and never had any misfires. I too found the large pistols a little snug and got revolver hang up since a few didn't get seated all the way...my fault. The large rifle are as good as any name brand out there.

I did note in chrono tests that the large pistol primers gave consistently higher velocity..not much but definitely detectable which probably means they are a littler hotter.

All in all good value for the money.

Used at least 10k in LPP and SRP. Never a failure. They are kinda dirty and leave a greenish-yellow powdery film in my flip trays.

The Cowboy Action folks, many, have not had any complaints
I never used Wolf primers but shoot a lot of Wolf Extra Match 2LR' that are very accurate

Just loaded up some tulammo primers and had 2 of 10 not fire. Loaded 20 more and all went bang. I've not tried wolf but their ammo all has worked. The price is hard to beat on the russian stuff

I bought 5000 of the large rifle primers and when I first tried them, I had a couple of
misfires.... Read on some forum, you have to be sure to seat them fully or you'll get
misfires. I've been more careful since and have had no problems with them... They do
seem to be a little more snug when seating them.

good and seemingly consistent for the price, though they fit tight in virtually every case I've put them in.

The only problem that I have encountered having shot 25K Wolf and Tula primers was with my Keltec PF9. I think they are slightly tougher than some of the others. That gun has been relegated (after reading Lee's warning about Federal primers) to using Federal SPP's which work well in it. Having said that, I have used many thousand Russian SPM's in my 5.56 and 300 BO loads without problems.

    I must be the exception.

    dr,

I bought 5,000 Wolf small rifle primers about two years ago during the great hoarding. Mine were used for my .223/556 LMT AR. I had problems with primer rupture/blow-by with medium and low powder loads of W748. It was bad enough they ruptured but they also eroded the face of my AR bolt. I even went below the recommended powder loads to see if light loads would rupture but they all did. Next I loaded them in a lower pressure round- the 9mm at standard and light loads. Still ruptured. Finally I loaded them in an even lower pressure round- the .45acp with small primer brass. Finally they would fire without rupturing. The problem with Small Rifle Primers in pistol rounds is that sometimes there may not be enough energy from the hammer/striker to reliably fire every cartridge.

I tried primers from different boxes within my 5000 case and had the same results. I finally took them back to my local reloading supply house and he swapped me out with some Winchester small rifle primers and had no problems. My lot number was from year 2009.

So no more Wolf primers for me but at least others have had good results.

    best wishes- oldandslow

I have Wolf SPP and have found they are HARD! I have tried flush, below flush and crush fit. Experienced misfires with all options. They were used in .38 Special and .32 S&W-L with various brass. K frames and J frames. Never an issue with the 9MM BHP or the KelTec Sub 2000 in .40 Cal. With the wheel guns they gave less than stellar results. I even got EXTRA power springs from Wolff and they still had issues. You will find (as I did) if you search on the internet there are many writeups on forums about the hardness of Wolf SPP in particular. I did get mine at 15 Bucks a thousand so I can't cry too hard, just know that I may get a misfire now and again.
You can miss fast & you can miss a lot, but only hits count.

In have used over 25K of the PMC/Wolf/Tula Russian primers without any issues. A Couple of things to be aware of. With the Russian primers the difference between magnum and standard is cup thickness. For any high pressure applications like 223 you want magnum primers. The anvils are not proud like on US primers. They are flush and the cup tends to be slightly larger than what we are used too. They must be fully seated to be reliable.
