With DownRange, BPI, Precision, there are many, many options for tapered or straight wall hulls. I have got a lot of DownRange wads lately and really like the quality.

You can tame your light NEF with one of these> http://www.grizzlygunworks.com/D1_Sh...zzle_Brake.php
Or make your own as I did if you have the equipment.

Hey thanks for posting this, I'm a huge fan of the Lyman 525 but have struggled to get any decent groups past 60yds, I will be giving this a try in the near future, again thanks for sharing and keep up the good work. HC

If you are using Winchester or Remington hulls, they are tapered and the WAA12 or WAA12R or WAA12F114 or 12S4 equivalents from DownRange would all work well. If you are using a straight hull,
Federal, RIO, Fiocchi, Cheddite, then I will check.

Wow. The sandpaper is such a simple way to help give the slug a bit of grip and make sure it gets spinning. Great Idea.
Have you played around at all with the seating depth of the slug by sticking the sandpaper onto the front and back of a nitro card, cork, or fiber filler wads?

Also, do you think casting the back of the slug full of molten bees wax would work in place of the hot glue?

I'd think anything which would not compress could be used to fill the cavity at the base of the slug. I think someone used Shoe Goop to fill it; I checked price and it's cheaper to use glue sticks. My first try with the glue sticks left humps of glue sticking up above the base of the slug. I'm going to go with double sided sandpaper glued to slug base with a board setting on top to keep the glue/sandpaper flat with the base of the slug.
