sizing 300 blackout bullets

So as some of you have seen, I am gearing up to cast for a 300 blackout. I have a lee 230 grain mold on the way but I am looking at another light weight mold as well. I see a lot of people recommend an ak style mold for this purpose. I plan to size all my cast bullets to .309. If I get a light weight mold in the 150 grain range, can my sizing dies still do the job if that drop at .312? If those can be sized down with no problem I am sold.

yes absolutely. I use the 312-155 and size to .309 with no issue

One other question for you all. I'm looking at molds and want to make sure there is data for me to work with when starting a new charge. I'm looking at the hodgdon site and everything if for jacket/plated rounds. Would I be safe in using that data just back in the charges down just a little? Say 15% or so?

Won't be a problem. The Lee 312-155 is what I use and size them to .310. Feeds as well or better then anything.

Also with this mold, do you gas check? If so is it for super and sub or just one of them? Thanks for the info.

Yes I check the boolits from that mould. I don't run a can on my rifle and have not been able to get subs to cycle the action. Besides, no can, what's the point? All my loading is supersonic.

I'd suggest a .310 die. Especially for the heavy bullets.

Some powders do not do so well being downloaded by 15%. H110 is a powder that should not be downloaded.

Size your boolits as soon as you can. This will allow for easier sizing.

My 300 BLK slugs around .307", so .309" is plenty big for cast.
Another option is the other Lee AK boolit, the TL312-160. It works fine in my carbine.
I load 15.4 grains of 296 or 16 grains of Reloader 7 for cycling and good accuracy.
OAL 1.985" YES to gas checks.

I think you'll find that in order to chamber properly, any suitable lead boolit will have to be loaded quite a bit shorter than a jacketed bullet of similar weight, making the powder charge recommended for the j-bullet inappropriate for the lead boolit.

Good luck with your blackout. The more I work with mine, the more confused I get. I originally thought of it as a 30-30 in a modern sporting rifle, but now I'm more inclined to think of it as a 30 Carbine on steroids.

I have not see any powder companies listing 300 blk load data for this bullet. I started some loads with alliant power pro 300-MP. I had good results with this powder and some M80 147 grain pull downs , and so far it does not look bad for the cast wither

With cast in a 300 blackout there is no reason to download the charge. Just start at the recommended starting charge for jacketed. The blackouts velocity falls right in the cast boolit optimum speed. I have some that are powder-coated that I have been able to exceed the velocity listed for jacketed, and still get under 2" at 100 yards for 5 shot strings with no pressure signs, or flattened primers. The lee 155 liked Lil Gun the most out of all the powders I had tried. H110 was good, but did not get the velocity I wanted before I got ejector swipes.

yep I am already a member there and that is why I suggested them .
