It does nothing to neutralize black powder. What part of it is ph basic to neutralize the ph acid of black powder salts? Or what part of it washes away black powder salts? Let’s stop spreading misinformation that will mess up people’s barrels. It won’t do what your describing

Thank you. In my experience not impressed with Ballistol after BP or chlorate primers... Old WW2 GI bore cleaner or plain old hot water, leftover coffee, or breakfast tea or even rainwater wicked up from a muddy hoofprint in the road is better, followed by a flush with Ed's Red.

To avoid confusion when answering a post, use the "Reply With Quote" link on the post you want to reply to. It's in the lower right hand corner of every post. That will bring up the post you're referring to and make your answer clearer to everyone.

    Hope this helps.

If substituting MEK for the Acetone, would Ed's Red still be harmful to plastic and wood? Also, are there any alternative chemicals that could be added to the mix to pull copper besides ammonia?

    Thanks,

MEK is stronger than acetone with respect to damaging plastic and wood finishes.
In addition MEK will dissolve heart tissue and kidney tissue due to inhaling the vapors.
