I would say you done good. I just picked up a win in 44 mag to see how my wife liked it. I would have rather had a 357, just haven't run across the right deal.

That is a very good deal these days. Those 357 Marlins are commanding some pretty high prices here lately. I sure like the one I have but I have to keep a close eye on it as my oldest son, and a good old friend both want it. I have been keeping an eye out for another but haven't found one for the price you paid. JW

That RD 175gr bullet is a dandy in that rifle. Mine also shoots the Lee 158gr RF bullet well too.

My .357 lever gun mostly sees 38's for short range pop can duty.

I have an early model Marlin .357.
The prices for these guns nowdays is absurd, at the about double a very nice 30-30.
They are sweet guns, and really fun when loaded with .38 specials, but I just don't see the facination that drives the price.
I'd rather have 2 30-30s! The cost to reload is about the same anyway, and the 30-30 is much more capable.

Having said that, in todays market you did ok, especially with the ammo thrown in.
You're happy with it, and that's what counts.

There was an interesting thread to that effect about the 30-30 as the poor-mans 357 here:

Still waiting, lol. Good find, I've been looking for awhile. Most days if I thought I'd run across a nice 357 Marlin I'd quit thinking about finding a Rossi/Puma. Other days I'd scoop up the Rossi just because I like the lines of a 92.

Hold out for the Marlin TXGunNut! The Marlin is one of the most accurate pistol caliber rifles I own. It is right up there with the older .41 mag! I tend to feed the .357 with 200gr. LBT GCWFN and Lyman 215gr. SWC. I am loading with an old batch of H110Data powder, burns faster than consumer and gets my velocity up a little more without going over the top on chamber pressure.
