    Savage 110 bolt face replacement

I've found a Savage 110 action and want to change out the bolt face. My question is what bolt face, if any will fit a .357 Magnum case? I'd like to build a .357 Mag. rifle on a bolt action. Could another bolt face be altered? Maybe a 7.62x39? A .357 has .440 diameter rim. Thanks for any help or comments. David

Yeah, a Carcano action would be great but, I can get the Savage 110 action for $50. I'd like to use the 110 if I can. If a bolt head in the right size is available, it would be a easy bolt change.

I just measured a 7.62X39 base and a .357 base, the 7.62X39 bolt face should work just fine with a little room to spare.

They are available here if you don't already know that.

One needs to click on Savage bolt bodies in the link.

You can go to Midway USA and get the bolt face for less than 30 bucks.

The bolt face is easy to change. Just take the bolt apart, swap out the interchangeable bolt heads and you're done.

Well, I checked Pacific Tool and Midway USA and neither one has the bolt head I need for the long action. DANG.

I did not do the 357 yet. I chickened out because of the carcano's mauser type extractor. I did one carcano in a 7.62x39 and really played with the 357 idea then and in the last year I did a carcano in 35 rem, getting ready to do a barrel for 225 winchester for it also. That is with taking 6.5 carcano brass and reforming to 225 win. I still play with the idea of a 357 in one but I have come to the place that the 35 maxium would be the best choice because its length would help guiding the cartridge into chamber. I found the short brass length of the 357 to want to stove pipe alot. If someone has done I would sure love to know how they did it. If you try and it fails you can still ream for a max or go to 35 rem.

I have wanted to do a real bolt for a 30-30 for a long time. I plan to take a 30 cal barrel and ream it for a 30-30 imp, using a carcano, the original 30 remington brass and fireforming it to fit. Just this morning it all game clear to me how to do it so now I need to save for a barrel. Sorry for the thread drift but those smaller cartridge heads are fun to dram with.
