Find a 243 or 308 bolt gun and send it to JES reboring and have him turn it into a 358win.

It might not be the cheapest alternative, but Goodsteel never disappoints in rifle building. The 358 he built for me is a thing of beauty and shoots much better than I can hold it. If Tim does it, it is right, PERIOD.

Midway were selling kits for Savage rifles with chambered ER Shaw barrel, lock nut, wrench and go/no go gauges. It looked like an interesting DIY option.

Savage has a $75 rebate program for the model 10/11 right now. I've seen the Trophy Hunter XP go for as low as $399. It comes with a Nikon scope that you could sell for $125. So, subtract $75 and $125 and you have the rifle for $200. Sell the barrel for $50 and now you have $150 in it. Buy a Midway kit for $200 or get a Green Mountain barrel from Apache Gun works for $200. No affiliation, but the guys on SavageShooters speak highly of them.

Add $50 or so for ffl fees and shipping and you should be able to do it for $450.

I went with the Midway kit and found a coupon for $20 off and then sold my barrel wrench for $25.
