    358009 Question

What is a good velocity for a "WQ WW 358009 / 3589" bullet for large game?

Elk or moose sized game to narrow that down.

    Thanks

    Duane

As fast as you can get required accuracy is my goal
What platform will you be using?
    35 Whelan in a Rem 700?
    Contender with a 16 1/2 in barrel?
    Thanks
    Mike

I get decent accuracy out of my 700 Rem, 358 Norma at 2200fps

1900 fps or faster will flatten anything in North America.

Blammer, that will work. I guess I knew that answer, but sometimes you just needed hear it from someone else for it to sink in...

Birddog, that sounds like a handful! LOL

SkeetTX, yes is the best answer I can give right now. I was shooting the 358009 out of my 16.5 Encore in 35-06 JDJ. 49gr 4064 at over 2000 fps. (The chrony at 25 yards gave right at 2000.) It was a handful, but deadly. In a moment of weakness, I had stupid judgment and sold off that SSK barrel. However, I do have a 16.5in TC Custom Shop chambered in 358 Win that Mike Bellm rechambered to 35-06 AI. I will not push it like I did the 35-06JDJ though. Ironically, I also have a 26in Encore on 357 Herrett with a really long throat. May have to play around with that rig.

When I purchase another bolt action rifle, I will build a 35 Whelen. 700 clone action, "drop in" replacement stock, custom barrel tapered to a 700 Rem barrel.

(The 15.75in 357 Max is NOT going to see this bullet. LOL. It is shooting the Saeco 354. )

    Thanks for the feedback!!

Well, this is almost an oxymoron, however, here is the 357 Herrett with the 358009

This 26in Encore barrel has a long throat, and I had an extra set of dies...
